Infected, don't know where else to turn

This thread's last reply is from January 27, 2009, 4:20 AM UTC. Software, malware, and removal-tool advice below may be out of date — treat specific steps and download links with caution.

Someone used my computer and now every time I try to open a link in a browser window I get popups trying to lead me to various sites. I have run AntiVir to no avail. I have Malwarebytes installed on my computer but it will not run. I tried downloading the installer for Malwarebytes but that won't run, either. When I try to uninstall Malwarebytes the uninstall process hangs. I can't run Spybot S&D. I can run Ad Aware, which I did last night, and it found a couple of malicious files and said it removed them, but the problem still exists. I ran AntiVir and it found 9 or 10 trojans, said it removed them. I just got done running it again and it comes up clean.

I can run HijackThis but I have no idea how to get the file over to your forum because I can't get this forum to open on that computer (I am using a laptop). I am at my wits end here. I can't get any of the above programs to run even in Safe Mode. I don't know what else to do. Please tell me there is something other than wiping my hard drive that I can do to fix this!

Thanks in advance!
In order for us to help you it is necessary that you provide us with a HijackThis log. The HijackThis log is merely a text file, so you should be able to copy it onto a disk and move it to another computer that is able to access this site. Do not use a USB flash drive to transfer the text file, use a floppy, a CD, or even a DVD. A USB flash drive may become infected if plugged into the infected computer... then it could transfer the infection to the clean computer. Next, just copy and paste the contents of the log into a fresh topic, as this one will be closed.

A HijackThis log, as well as other logs that may be requested, provide us with a guideline for removing whatever malware is infecting your system. We cannot proceed without such logs for guidance.

Please follow the guideline at the link below to start a new topic and post your HijackThis log. If you are unable to create and post a HijackThis log, then your only option may be to reformat your computer and reinstall the operating system.

This topic is now closed. Please start a new topic by following the HijackThis Guideline posted here: >Guideline for posting your HijackThis log<
