Hi! :hello2: and welcome to the Malware Removal forums.
My name is John Brouwer - if it helps, you can call me John for short. I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

These rules are good for you to know:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • If you don't reply within five days after my last instructions this topic will be closed. If you will not be able to reply within five days please tell me so the topic will not be closed.

These rules are to make my voluntary work more comfortable:
  • Please be patient. The work I do is voluntary and I also have a private life (school, work, friends and hobbies).
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Also, don't post logs as attachments. Other helpers like to view the logs as well and opening a lot of attachments is irritating. It can also contain malware.

Finally, please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Open The Misc Tool Section button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop and post the contents in a reply to this topic. Also post a fresh HijackThis log.

Regards,
John.

Hi,

The uninstall log is not complete :D

i have opened all drivers and file not found entries in autoruns that I had disabled so you may see the hole system.

Thanks a lot!

At first sight nothing seems wrong. Related to your problem: We do have to update Java, I will give instructions later. Let's run another scanner first :)

Step 1: Move HijackThis
You currently are running HijackThis from your desktop.

Please make a folder there and place HijackThis in that folder.

Step 2: Disable Teatimer
Please disable Teatimer as it may interfere with the fix.
First:
  • Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second:
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
  • Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
Once your log is clean you can re-enable those settings in TeaTimer.

Step 3: Download and Run ComboFix
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. For information on how to disable your anti virus program please see this:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html

Go on with the ComboFix guide when it opens its log please close it.

Remember that the ComboFix log is saved here: C:\ComboFix.txt

Step 4: Post logs
Please post the following logs in a reply to this topic (use multiple posts if logs are cut off):
  • Complete uninstall list
  • New HJT log
  • ComboFix log

Regards,
John.

Hi,

Looks good overall, we will run one more scan. You did not post a fresh HijackThis log, but just the one of yesterday. Next time when I ask for a fresh/new HijackThis log please just ran a scan with HijackThis and let it save the logfile. Then post that logfile. In the header you can find that date and time the log was saved, so you can check for yourself if you really have a new one.

Step 1: Download and Run DirLook
Please download DirLook by jpshortstuff from one of the following mirrors:
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
  • Double-click DirLook.exe to run it.
  • Ensure that Show Hidden Files/Folders and BBCode Ouput are both checked.
  • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:

    Code: Select all
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\???????

  • Click the DirLook button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please close it for now, as the log can also be found at C:\DirLook.txt.

Note: Scanning may take long for large folders.

Step 2: Download and Run ATF Cleaner
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Step 3: Download and Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Close the Notepad file.
  • The log file is saved here and will be named like this: C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Step 4: Post logs
Please post the following logs in a reply to this topic:
  • Fresh HijackThis log
  • DirLook log
  • MBAM log

Regards,
John.

Hi,

I would like to know about these entries because I am sure that I have windows messenger uninstalled or at least unchecked in add remove windows components. O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe

Here is some information about the O9 section:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutoria ... tml#O9Diag
I would recommend that you just keep those, it is not a problem at all unless you are irritated by the button and the item listed under 'Tools'. Everybody has these..

Please press Start->Run, copy/paste the following command (it's one long command) into the box and press OK:
Code: Select all
reg export "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\!SASWinLogon" "%userprofile%\desktop\sas.txt"

A new file called sas.txt should appear on your Desktop. Please post the contents of that. Also let me know how your system is running and if you have anymore problems.

Regards,
John.

Hi,

I have updated my java it was after the last logs...

Alright, please post a new uninstall log (told you how to do this in my welcome speech)

ko so that file the ????? I found the file in C: windows/sys32/then it had 7 little blank boxes in its header. I tried to open with firefox searched on the web with firefox and it tried to open some exe file that had Chinese symbols as a title. I did not load said file. I tried to get a screen shot but had to much going on and closed it out grrrrrr. when I went back to look for it in system 32 it was also gone. Funny I cant find it in my browser history eather. so I can not tell you exactly what it was. I do not know how to find out that info. but if you can tell me how to find it I will post it!

Is there also a folder with those strange symbols in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers? If you cannot find it try this and look again:
  • Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
  • Double-click on the My Computer icon (or click Start, then select My Computer)
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • After the new window appears select the View tab.
  • Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
  • Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

If you find the folder with such strange symbols in that folder please take a look what is inside and make a screenshot if possible. Post that.

these are the dirlook results

I did not ask you to run the stuff inside the code box with DirLook. It should be run by clicking Start in the right-bottom of your screen, then clicking Run and entering the command inside the code box and pressing Enter or OK. Please post the contents of sas.txt which will be created on your desktop.
Code: Select all
reg export "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\!SASWinLogon" "%userprofile%\desktop\sas.txt"

Hi,

First of all, something seems to be borked in SUPER Anti-Spyware. I recommend that you uninstall it through Add/Remove programs, then reboot at least once and install it again. Other than that, please do this.

Step 1: Upload malware for scanning
I'd like you to check a file for malware.
<enter files>

  • Click the Browse button and browse to the file with those strange characters in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers, double-click on it when you found it
  • Click Send/Submit, and the file will upload to VirusTotal/Jotti, where it will be scanned by several anti-virus programmes.
  • After a while, a window will open, with details of what the scans found.
  • Save the complete results in a Notepad/Word document on your desktop.

Step 2: Download and Run JavaRa
This will remove any leftovers of old versions of Java.
  • Download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Step 3: Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Open The Misc Tool Section button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop.

Step 4: Post logs
Please post the following logs in a reply to this topic (use multiple posts if the logs do not fit):
  • Let me know if you still have the initial problems and tell me about any other problems you have
  • New HijackThis log (remember to check the date in the header)
  • New Uninstall log (the one I told you to make in Step 3)
  • VirusTotal/Jotti results of the strange file
  • JavaRa log

Regards,
John.
