For some reason this is the second time its happened and we think itswhen my husband's been using Pure Play Poker. How could that happen? He's not clicking the ads and I couldn't info anywhere from other people saying they're having similar problem. Keep getting popups and the windows automatic update is off even though its selected as on in the security center.

Thank you!

Hi supafreak00,

In your regards to your question about poker sites:
A lot of poker programs are infected/can infect you with malware.
I would advise you to go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall your poker programs.

Here are links to some poker sites regarded as safe for your reference.
1. http://www.pokerstars.net/ - This is a free to use/play site with play money.
2. http://www.pokerstars.com/ - This is a free to use/play site with play money and real money.

-------------------------------------------------

CCleaner Slim
  • Please download and install CCleaner Slim.
  • Once installed, double click on the desktop shortcut created.
  • On the Windows tab, leave the default options alone.
  • On the Applications tab, check (tick) all the boxes except Saved Form Information. This will remove all your saved passwords if you leave this box checked.
  • Click on the Run Cleaner button at the bottom right hand corner.
  • Close CCleaner.

-------------------------------------

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

So I tried to run SDFix and let it sit ALL day, and it just stayed at the "Checking registries and processes" and I had to restart to be able to close it. I haven't tried it again. I WAS able to use CCleanerSlim though.

Okay lets try this:

Download and run Combofix

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:
A word of warning: Please do not run ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this topic if you need help to disable your protection programs.
Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

Important:please re-enble your antivirus as soon as combofix has finished.

Upload a File to Jotti
Please visit http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Copy/paste this file and path into the white box at the top:

I feel really dumb but I can't get Mcafee to show me a log where I can copy/paste all of the issues. I took a couple screenshots & put it in word of the log history.

Run Kaspersky Online AV Scanner
Note: Internet Explorer should be used.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan and then put the kettle on!
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place like your Desktop. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Copy and paste the report into your next reply along with a fresh HJT log and a description of how your PC is behaving.

Hi supafreak00,

It appears that your computer has been re-infected,the re-infection has occured due to use of a p2p program namely "Limewire",While limewire is a safe p2p client ,you can never be sure about the files you download as they are not hosted from limewire themselves, but from other p2p users and there are certain people out there who like nothing better than infecting innocent users computers,so (and this is site policy) i must insist that you remove limewire from your computer before i help any further .

To do this:

Go to Start-Settings-Control Panel, click on Add remove Programs. If any of the following programs are listed there, click on the program to highlight it, and click on remove. Then close the Control Panel.

    Limewire

  • Look under System tools.
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  • Click on the Save list... button.
  • It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  • Notepad will open. Please copy and paste the contents of this log in your next reply.

I've uninstalled Limewire (sorry). Every time I try to save the list in HJT, it just closes the program and does not open wordpad or anything.

Thanks.
