Cannot read emails in Hotmail and Yahoo

I have been having this problem now for over a week. When I login to my Hotmail and Yahoo accounts, it accepts my Login ID and password, then goes to the initial screen which is a list of all the message Subject headers. But when I click on any message header to view the email text, nothing happens. I get a message at the bottom of the screen that says 'Loading...". Below that it says "javascript:;" and also when I try clicking on a message header, or a different mail folder, I get a message below (in place of the 'javascript:;') that says "Read tg.ebay.cachetastic.com", and later it says "Transferring data from thumbs1.ebaystatic.com". If I try to login to both Hotmail and Yahoo from a different computer, I have no problems at all. Please can anyone help?

Hi Priya,

I can't see any signs of malware in your HijackThis log. That doesn't guarantee your machine is clean of malware, but it's a good sign. If you have not received any alerts from your protection software, and the only symptom you are experiencing is the one you report, then I would say the problem is not likely to be malware-related.

For help with non-malware-related issues, I recommend you try posting at a general troubleshooting forum like WhatTheTech or PC Pitstop. The experts at these forums specialize in this type of problem so you will be in good hands.

If you wish to look closer for malware then we can give your machine a thorough check.

I'm glad to hear the problem has been resolved. Here are some recommendations for you:

Your Java is outdated and is now a security risk
Go to Start » Control Panel » Add/Remove Programs
Search all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
(They should have this icon next to it: )
Remove all versions of Java.
Download and install the newest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (version 6 update 10), from here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp


You have Ask Toolbar installed on your system. This program is not malware, but it may report on your surfing behavior and is considered undesirable, see here and here for more information. If you actually use this program, consider a safe alternative such as Google Toolbar.
I recommend you remove this program via Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs

FriendFinder Messenger has been reported as being associated with malware, so I recommend you remove it via Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs

I recommend you install a custom hosts file such as MVPS HOSTS. This custom hosts file effectively blocks a wide range of unwanted ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and many hijackers.
For information on how to download and install, please read this tutorial by WinHelp2002
Note: Be sure to follow the instructions to disable the DNS Client service before installing a custom hosts file.
Also: subscribe to the mailing list to get update notifications.

Please take care when downloading programs. One of the easiest ways to be infected is to download freeware/shareware programs which come laden with malware - this includes allowing websites to install browser plug-ins or ActiveX controls. Before downloading, it is crucial to check whether the source is reputable.
One way to check is to use McAfee SiteAdvisor. Copy the domain name into the space provided and SiteAdvisor will give you a report on the website which can help you decide if it is safe. They also have a toolbar for IE and Firefox which adds this functionality to your browser.

Download and install the free version of WinPatrol. This program protects your computer in a variety of ways and will work well with your existing security software. Have a look at this tutorial to help you get started with the program.
