Thanks for your perseverance. I'll take you advice on avoiding infection again and check out with Spybot and Microsoft to see what the problem is re "slow scan" and "loss of Critical Update" respectively.

Just one more thing, can you tell if you have set Internet Explorer to start when windows starts or not :?:

With regards to the problems you have been having, i would suggest you have a look on the Net-Intregation Forum. From the makers of Spyboy Search and Destroy and the official support site. Also Spybot can be resource Hungry on windows 98.
