trojan detected need help removing

Hi, my pc is using ESET and detects a trojan but I can't find the source of it to permanently remove the virus. My computer has started to restart on its own, randomly freeze and crash, and sometimes won't even start up. I'm hoping to get help removing this and to find the root cause to figure out how to prevent this from happening again in the future. Here are the HiJackThis logs:

In the mean time can you give me an Uninstall list please !!

1. Open HijackThis.
2. Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
3. Look under System tools.
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
5. Click on the Save list... button.
6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
7. Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

Hi flash - thanks for your help, I appreciate it. Two things I wanted to mention before posting the uninstall list: 1] I did a quick scan after my original post of any new programs the malware/spyware may have installed on to my computer and saw a program named "Java[DB] etc. etc." which I didn't recognize or remember installing at all so I removed it. 2] The malware appears to be disabling my Task Manager (alt ctrl del) every time my computer boots up so I have to manually remove it through REGEDIT. Just two pieces of information I thought I might mention before proceeding. Anyways, here is the list you requested:

Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red) NOW.

Post back a new HijackThis, so we can continue cleaning your pc.

Hello f5spawn, lets start cleaning your computer !!

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
• Choose your usual account.
• Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
• Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
• It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
• Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
• When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
• Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
  (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
• Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player's components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto-updating for the Viewpoint Manager -- the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.
I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):

• Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
• In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
• In Add or Remove Programs, highlight >>Viewpoint component<< , click Remove.
• Do the same for each Viewpoint component.

Hi Flash, I ran HJT and removed the item you mentioned without any problems. I also uninstalled Viewpoint as I never use it and never noticed it was installed in the first place. As for my computer, it seems to be running fine without any of the side effects or problems that the malware caused it. As an extra step of caution however, when I open Task Manager to see the processes that are running, I still notice many processes that I am not familiar with or why it is running. Should I be worried that they are excess processes running on my computer caused by the malware from before or are they just normal processes running that I was never familiar with in the first place and are ok? Anyways, here are the new HJT logs:

EDIT: just noticed something when I restarted my computer to finish testing if it's running ok. When I start up my computer, it still prompts the message CPU is unworkable or has changed, Please recheck CPL Soft Menu. This message never appeared before the malware infected my computer so I was wondering what this meant and how it could be related to one another.

Regarding the CPU message:
It's possible that the cpu is failing, but it is even more likely that the Bios Settings are incorrect, likely due to a weak CMOS battery (especially if the PC hasn't been used for a long time, and is over six years old).
But you may want to go to http://www.pchelpforum.com/ or http://www.pcpitstop.com/ they are good on solving things like this problem you are having !!

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows XP or Vista then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

Re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

• Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
• From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
• Click once on the Security tab
• Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
• Click once on the Custom Level button.
• Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  
• Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  
• Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  
• Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  
• Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  
• Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  
• When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  
• If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
• Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

• Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  
  
• Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  
  
• Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

• Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety

• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Winpatrol <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:

If you are using the built-in Windows XP firewall, it is not recommended as it does not block outgoing connections. This means that any malware on your computer is free to "phone home" for more instructions. Simply put, Windows XP contains a mediocre firewall. This firewall is NO replacement for a dedicated software solution. Remember to use only one firewall at the same time.

I'll go through the suggestions and start implementing them when I have the time. As you can tell from the delayed response, I've been busy this week. As for my computer, it's been running fine as I haven't detected any malware or trojans like before. However, my computer still freezes or restarts by itself once or twice when I boot up my computer for the first time of the day then it runs normal again. I assume this is due to my CPU malfunctioning and not with any leftover malware on my computer. If that is the case, I guess my system is malware free so thank you for your help and I'll get to the suggestions you mentioned in due time. Again, thanks flash!
