Hi saxon,

Please press Start->Run, copy/paste the following command (it's one long command) into the box and press OK:
cmd /c dir "C:\17PHolmes*.*" /a /s >> "%userprofile%\desktop\look.txt" 2>>&1
A black box will open and a file will appear on your Desktop called look.txt.
Please wait until the black box closes before opening it, and post the contents in your next response.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis, select Open the Misc Tools section
Press the Open Uninstall Manager... button, then press Save list...
Save the Uninstall log to your Desktop and include a copy in your next response.

Then, press Back then Scan and place a checkmark next to the following lines:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)

You have websites in your Trusted Zone. Any sites in the Trusted Zone are a security risk, so unless you need them to be there in order for the sites to work then please remove them by checking these lines:
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://cl-0063.web.uk.netscalibur.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://ecdl.nhs.uk

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

Open the ESET Online Scanner in Internet Explorer
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use. and click Start
  • Allow the ActiveX control to be installed by Internet Explorer
  • Once the ActiveX has finished loading click Start to initialize and update the scanner
  • When the Computer scan screen appears, leave Remove found threats UN-checked, but check the box next to Scan unwanted applications. Then click Scan to begin the scan.
  • Once complete and the summary page appears, press Start->Run, copy/paste the following command into the box and press OK:
    notepad "C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt"
  • The log file should now appear in Notepad, copy and paste the contents in your next response.

Once complete, please post the look.txt output, the uninstall list, the Eset report and a new HijackThis log.
Also, please tell me how your machine is running now and what symptoms you are experiencing.

Machine Behaviour

My machine keeps loosing its wireless networks and the wireless adaptor switches off. Otherwise it appears to be working fine. However after seeing the results of the Eset scan I am sure my pc is infected.

How will I know it is safe to use?

There is malware on your machine but cleaning should be fairly straightforward and I'll let you know when I think it's safe to use normally.

The wireless problem may not be malware-related, so if it remains when we have finished cleaning I may need to refer you to a general troubleshooting forum for further assistance.

Please post a new HijackThis log and we'll continue cleaning.

Hi saxon,

Please open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, and remove the following:

Viewpoint Media Player <- optional, see below


BitLord and SopCast need to be removed as site policy requires users to remove all P2P programs as part of cleaning.

The Java installations are out of date and now a security risk, you can get the latest update (version 6 update 7) from here

You have Viewpoint Media Player installed on your system. This program is not malware but it is foistware in that it is usually installed without the user's knowledge or approval, and for this reason I recommend you remove it. If you actually use this program, I recommend you try using safe and free alternatives such as VLC Media Player.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop (right-click the link, select Save Target As..., select your Desktop and press Save)
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to both of these options:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When finished, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to your Desktop, and post the contents in your reply.
  • The log can also be found here if you need it:
    • Start->All Programs->Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware->Logs

Once complete, please post the Malwarebytes Antimalware report and a new HijackThis log.

I have followed all your instructions and according to mbam log the trojans have been removed. I shall monitor the performance of my machine and report back in a couple of days.

Hi saxon,

Not all the trojans have been removed yet, also it appears that you have at least one outdated and vulnerable Java Runtime version still installed.
Please open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, and remove any of these still present:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) 6 Update 5

Open Notepad: press Start->Run, type notepad into the box and press OK
Select Format from the top menu and make sure Word Wrap is NOT checked.
Then, copy/paste the contents of the following code box into Notepad:

Save it to your Desktop as "runme.bat" (you MUST type the quotes)
Locate runme.bat on your Desktop and double-click it.
A black box should open and close after a short time, this is normal.
Another text file should appear on your Desktop called results.txt, do not open it until the black box has closed.
Post the contents of this file in your next response.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once complete, please post the results.txt output and a new HijackThis log.
Also, let me know how your machine is running now.
