Comp is reeeal slow. Pop ups get past blocker

Okay, my computer for some reason is acting really slow online. Even when I'm trying to do something as simple as open a Word document, it's moving like a snail. This wasn' always the case. It just got this way in the last few days. Also, despite the fact that my pop up blocker is on, Pop up ads continue to spring up every so often. I'm not sure how this is happening. And lastly, for some reason, my computer is saying the Automatic updates is turned off, and everytime I turn it on, it says "this can't be done." Didn't know if that was connected or not.
