Ok, so I have another Windows XP machine that was used by someone else and it got infected with Malware, bad (Popups, Windows Security Center System Warning, Purity Scan, CoolWebSearch, WinRes Hijacker). I begin the process by putting my files (adaware, spybot, HiJack This, & Malwarebytes Anti-Malware) onto a flash drive and copying them to the infected PC. Now, I've installed Adaware and it will run. It will scan and "delete" some of the problems.
HOWEVER, all of the files just come right back, even after I manually delete them. They just keep spawning.
Therefore, I try to install my other programs and I get nothing. They will not install. Firefox would install, but it will NOT run.
I also have a problem whereas the TASK MANAGER is disabled. I try to fix it by deleting the key DisableTaskMgr in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies\ System
But it comes right back and I still cannot access the Task Manager.
So my first task is getting HiJack This installed and running so I can post a log.
Any suggestions on how I can do this? I attempted to boot and try in safe mode, but this would not work. (Safe mode is fine, but program will not install) It's like my install function is disabled as well, even in safe mode.
This is pretty nasty. All help is appreciated.
EDIT!!! I was able to launch HiJack This by downloading it and choosing "RUN" as opposed to "SAVE" Still can't install any other programs though.
