HJT log file

Unread postby vile » July 5th, 2008, 8:48 pm

Hope everyone is recovering nicely from their fireworks thumbs and hangovers ;)

I stumbled upon these forums in hopes of finding someone to help me with my HJT log. Once I can get this under control, I'll make sure I come back and visit, though.

I took it upon myself to help my brother with his PC when he said that he had a virus. I like to think of myself as having an advanced understanding of computers, but I am hopeless in this case.

When I turned on his PC (we are running Windows XP Pro with SP2) I first noticed, "Malware Proctector 2008" 'running'. I immeadetly got frustrated with this because I had something similar on my own PC (thanks to a quick clicking boyfriend) and it was a pain in the neck to get rid of.

The only other symptom I have to offer is the BSOD. It comes up at random times and then says, 'restarting computer', shows the windows logo and load bar, but if you click on the screen or hit a button on the keyboard, that loading screen disappears and I am left with my desktop and what ever else may have been up.

These are the steps I have taken thus far:

I ran Trendmicro's housecall twice yesterday (but then was out an about so I have none of that info saved.) I have been trying to run it for a third time today but if I leave the computer alone at all (which I am tending to do because it is an ancient slow dinosaur) Housecall won't complete and allow me to see the analysis.
What I have from Housecall right now includes:
11 HTTP cookies found.

I ran a Full scan of Windows Defender twice. It says my computer is fine.

I ran Spybot-S&D. The results were as follows:

Microsoft.Windows.System: [SBI $D619D565] Settings (Registry change, nothing done)
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-507921405-1682526488-839522115-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\NoDispBackgroundPage

Microsoft.Windows.System: [SBI $7F8E43F4] User settings (Registry change, nothing done)
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-507921405-1682526488-839522115-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\NoDispScrSavPage

Right Media: Tracking cookie (Internet Explorer: JEN) (Cookie, nothing done)

I selected 'Fix selected problems' for the above three and this was supposedly successful.

I also downloaded and ran HijackThis. Here is the log for that:

You are already receiving help here

Posting to multiple forums is just wasting of volunteer helpers' time and that's why I will close this thread.
