Hi lilbilly

Your HijackThis is outdated.

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post.

Post:

- mbam report
- dss logs (taken after mbam run).

Hi

Uninstall this:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5

  • Click Start and then Run to bring up the Run box.
  • Copy and paste the contents of this quote box into the run box:
    "%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK to the prompt from Deckard's System Scanner.
  • Click Scan.
  • Place a tick next to the following entries (if they are present).
    .reg
    .scr
  • Click Fix

After that:

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SMshclucj0ej1l] C:\Program Files\shclucj0ej1l\shclucj0ej1l.exe
O9 - Extra button: Research - {92780B25-18CC-41C8-B9BE-3C9C571A8263} - (file missing)
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://trymedia.com (HKLM) (unless you have set these)
O15 - Trusted Zone: https://trymedia.com (HKLM)

Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.

Reboot.

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    Code: Select all
    C:\Program Files\shclucj0ej1l
    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Administrator\Application Data\rhcnucj0ej1l
    C:\Program Files\rhcnucj0ej1l

  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Please download the Registry Search tool by clicking on the "hard drive" icon halfway down this page:
http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/
Save it to the desktop and run it. If you get an alert from your antivirus about scripting, choose to allow the script to run. Search for sysrest.sys and click OK. Post the logfile from the tool here for me.

Re-run dss.

Hi

  • Download Registrar Lite from here and install it.
  • Start Registrar Lite.
  • Type in to Address field this and click ok:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\sysrest.sys
  • Right-click that key and choose Properties. Click "Take ownership".
  • Right-click that key again and choose Delete.
  • Repeat process for these key(s):
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\sysrest.sys
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\sysrest.sys
  • If it doesn't work, do Take ownership and delete steps for subkeys first:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\sysrest.sys\Security
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\sysrest.sys\Security
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\sysrest.sys\Security

Do another reg search with sysrest.sys and post back results, please.

I was able to locate the key for:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\sysrest.sys

but the option to Take Ownership was greyed out in the properties window. I tried to follow the steps to Take ownership and delete the subkeys you listed, but no key (subkey?) was listed for any of those addresses.

*Edit

After attempting to Take ownership through the Security menu, registrar lite informed me that Taking ownership is only available with the pro version of Registrar Registry Manager.

Hi

Yes, registrar lite has been updated and looks like that not all functions work anymore.

I will update my canned, thanks for letting me know.

Try this version instead, please :)

It looks like they updated the link on that page. Although it says Registrar Lite v2.00 the download actually is v5.66, and still won't allow me to Take Ownership.

I searched Yahoo! and found this webpage http://www.winaddons.com/registrar-lite-20/ It still has v2.0 available for download.

Here is the log from RegSearch after removal of those 3 keys:

Hi

Thanks for the link, I will add that to my canned :)

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Re: Alas, another Antivirus XP victim

Hi

Empty this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Administrator\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache

Delete these:

C:\Installs\BearShareV6.exe
C:\Program Files\Online Services\PeoplePC\ISP5900\Branding\ppal3ppc.exe

Empty Recycle Bin.

Still problems?

Unfortunately, yes. Still a couple problems.

While trying to delete C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Administrator\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache
i receive this error message
Cannot delete file or folder kos-main.jar-a28c4e6-530f47d.zip. It is being used by another person or program.

Also, in my C:/ drive is what appears to be another drive titled delete. When opened it looks like a copy of my C:/ drive with a folder named delete. Once that is opened there is another copy of my c:/ drive, along with the same folder named delete. I can open that folder about 15-20 times, each time it appears to have the same folders inside. When I run Mcaffee Virus Scan it attempts to scan c:/delete/delete/delete/delete/delete...... essentially keeping my virus scan running indefinately (i stopped it last time when it hit 2 full days). I was hoping this was part of the Antivirus XP, but I guess not. This appeared at about the same time as Antivirus XP.

I am tempted to delete it, but not sure what exactly will happen.

Thanks again so much for the help. It's been a long time since my machine has been this quick!

*Edit

I had my browser open when attempting to delete the cache folder. After closing the browser I was able to delete all files. Only problem left is the issue with c:/delete/delete/delete.....
