Hi, and welcome to malwareremoval forums

I'm dan12, I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Perform all actions in the order given.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with it till you're given the all clear.
  • REMEMBER, ABSENCE OF SYMPTOMS DOES NOT MEAN THE INFECTION IS ALL GONE.
If you can do these things, everything should go smoothly.
  • Please note you'll need to have Administrator priviledges to perform the fixes. (XP accounts are Administrator by default)
  • Please let me know if you are using a computer with multiple accounts, as this can affect the instructions given.
It may be helpful to you to print out or take a copy of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

I'm presently looking over your log and hope not to be too long.
Will be back with you as soon as I can.
Thanks dan

Hi, Pat

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin;
follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Post back the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems.

Hi Dan 12

thanks for your help
no problem for connecting internet, no need to use dnsbak.reg.

I have done what you suggest about the internet connexion in XP control panel, to Obtain DNS servers automatically, seems to be the right solution.
My computer works better now, faster, and all the problems are resolved.

My task bar missed icons (like sound control) are now back
I can connect to the statcounter website
I can see my google adsense on my computer

so I'm very happy with the result.

just a little problem stays : when I clik on "start" to stop the PC, I have to wait a long time to get the panel with the "close computer" button (about 2 minuts)

I have performed the Fixwareout as you asked, you can find it hereby :

Hi, Pat,
Delete programs
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present). It could be that they have a space or something between it , but it has to look like it:
  • FlashGet

**Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)

OK Dan, I have done all your requests, include Java update.

but I am surprise you don't see antivirus running. I run Zone Alarm antivirus since many years, with firewall, a regular version updated, buy to Zone Labs, with a regular key and registering.
Seems to works very well, no big virus problems since.

I have just now two little issues :

PC start and close process is very long (about 5 minuts each) but when started, applications runs perfectly and fast. So not a big issue

another is that icons for sound and external drives have again disappear in the task bar... but not a big issue too...

if you can help on that points, if not, no problem. I can work with that.

here my last hijackthis

I use Firefox, not IE .

no danger if I fixed it ?
Or I must keep some ?

Please don't delete those entries I will have a look at start up entries to try and speed things up.
HJT is a powerfull tool and you could end up nuking your system :(

Referance zone alarm I assumed it was just the fire wall you had, your saying you have the full licensed a/v and firewall package and your upto date?
You don't then require one of the a/v I gave you.
I will be looking through your returned log soon.

Let's get you updated before we look at startup entries.

:uninstall some programs:

1. click on start
2. then go to settings
3. after that you need control panel
4. look for the icon add remove programs
click on the following programs

adobe reader

and click on remove

Reboot the computer

: Update Adobe Reader
It looks like your version of Adobe Reader is out of date and you're vulnarable for infections.
Please download the newest version here:

Thank you

I can see a firewall, but ..

You aren't running Anti Virus Software

Anti-virus software are programs that detect, cleanse, and erase harmful virus files on a computer, Web server, or network.
Unchecked, virus files can unintentionally be forwarded to others, including trading partners and thereby spreading infection. Because new viruses regularly emerge, anti-virus software should be updated frequently. Anti-virus software can scan the computer memory and disk drives for malicious code. They can alert the user if a virus is present, and will clean, delete (or quarantine) infected files or directories. Please download a free anti-virus software from one these excellent vendors NOW:

1) Antivir PersonalEditionClassic
-Free anti-virus software for Windows.
-Detects and removes more than 50,000 viruses. Free support.
2) avast! 4 Home Edition
-Anti-virus program for Windows.
-The home edition is freeware for noncommercial users.
3) AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
-Free edition of the AVG anti-virus program for Windows.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner. (You will need to use Internet Explorer to run this scan)

On the welcome screen, click Accept.

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, click Install.

  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings.
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

    Extended (if available, otherwise Standard)

  • Scan Options:

    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases

  • Click OK.
  • Now under Select a Target to Scan:

    Select My Computer.

  • The program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button and save the file to your desktop.

Please include in your next post:
  • Kaspersky scan log
  • New highjackthis log

Thanks dan
