Unread postby Shaba » February 19th, 2008, 2:51 pm

Hi

Are both AVG and McAfee up-to-date?

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark these:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.

Reboot.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)

    o Scan Options:

    + Scan Archives
    + Scan Mail Bases

  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Note: This scanner will work with Internet Explorer Only!

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

Hi....

The Kaspersky link is bringing me to a Legal page and then it freezes after I "Accept." Do you have another link perhaps?

Hi

Are you using Internet Explorer with it? It doesn't work with Firefox.

Hi

Delete this:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\NPMySrch.dll

Empty Recycle Bin.

Are both AVG and McAfee up-to-date?

Hi

If they are, then you should uninstall AVG.

Only one antivirus active/computer.

After that, please post back a fresh HijackThis log :)

Hi,

I would prefer to uninstall MacAfee. Can I do that instead?

Hi

Yes you can, but as McAfee has a firewall and AVG doesn't, I recommend to uninstall AVG.

If you uninstall McAfee, you will need to install another firewall.

Re: I TOO have a Red Biohazard Screen

Unread postby Shaba » February 27th, 2008, 5:55 am

Hi

Do this and let me know if you still have those popups:

  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer

The connection is timing out. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.
