Please Help - How To Remove Core.Cache.dsk ??

I've been getting IE popups like crazy!

I ran a scan with Spybot S&D, and it didn't delete it... when I try to delete it this message appears: "Cannot delete core.cache: It is being used by another person or program."

I'll first need a HijackThis log to diagnose the problem:

Download HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.

• Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis.
• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
• Click on Install.
• It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
• Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Post the contents of that report in your next reply.

Don't use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Step 1

Please download and install CCleaner.

Open CCleaner. On the Windows tab, leave the default options alone.

• On the Applications tab, check (tick) all the boxes except Saved Form Information. This will remove all your saved passwords if you leave this box checked.
• Click on the Run Cleaner button at the bottom right hand corner.
• When the cleaner has completed, click Tools in the Left Pane.
• Verify that Uninstall is highlighted in color, or click on it.
• In the lower right, click Save to Text File.
• Pull down the arrow at the top of the Save dialog and choose Desktop as the location.
• You can leave the filename as install.txt.
• Click Save, then exit Ccleaner.

Post the log from ComboFix (C:\Combofix.txt) when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log and the CCleaner Uninstall List.

Bad news.

I downloaded ComboFix did everything I was suppose to do and right after this stage


ComboFix said it was deleting Core.Cache.dsk then all of a sudden my computer went blank with a blue screen and this message appeared: "a problem has been detected windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer"

When the computer restarted this message appeared:



And I noticed a new file on my desktop named "catchme.zip" ...


I'm lost ...


So I wasn't able to get a log from ComboFix because of that, but I have a new log from HijackThis, and Ccleaner...

There should be a log created here: C:\Combofix.txt. Please look for that file and post its contents. If it isn't there, please let me know.

I found a file named Combofix.txt and this information was inside it:

Alright, let's try something different:

Click Start then Run....

• Type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. (Note: The space between the x and the /u needs to be there)
  
  
  
  
• This will uninstall Combofix.

Then download the latest copy of Combofix from one of the links below:

http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe

Before running Combofix, rename ComboFix.exe to FixCombo.exe, by right-clicking on the file and selecting Rename.

Then double-click on FixCombo.exe and post the resultant log (if it worked).

I uninstalled ComboFix, reinstalled ComboFix, renamed ComboFix and closed/disabled any security programs running. Ran FixCombo.exe but the computer still shuts down...

Never came across that before Let's try running it from Safe Mode:

Print these instructions or copy them to Notepad and save it to your desktop, as you won't be able to access internet in Safe Mode.

Please reboot into Safe Mode. To do this, go to Start > Turn off Computer, and select Restart. Rapidly tap F8 just before Windows starts to load. In the menu that appears, select Safe Mode (Without Networking).

Log in to your usual account.

Double-click on FixCombo.exe and let me know whether it worked.

I restarted the computer in safe mode. Clicked on FixCombo.exe and this flashed on the screen then went away and the program didn't run.

Do not rename it. Reboot into Safe Mode and double-click Combo-Fix.exe. If you get the same error message as you described in your previous reply, try to double-click it once more.
