Help with possible malware.

I need help with a microsoft outlook problem and someone referred me here. Our computer is sending multiple emails from Outlook to the point it shuts down the server. It has done this twice when attaching a semi-large powerpoint file. We are using microsoft 2007 on xp service pk 2. Our hijackthis file is attached. Thanks for your help.

Nothing really jumps out as malware here. So let's take care of a couple of things, then we can dig a little deeper. :)

First things first. You are currently running HijackThis from your desktop. We need to move it to its own permanent folder. HijackThis creates backups which can be used to restore entries it has "fixed". Running it from the desktop would result in those backups being littered all over your desktop. Please do the following:

• Create a folder on the root drive, (Usually C:\), called C:\HJT.
  • Go to "My Computer", (Windows key+e), or by double-clicking on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop.
  • Double click on "C:"
  • Right click and select New->Folder. Name it C:\HJT.
• Move HijackThis from your desktop to its permanent folder C:\HJT.

Now let's take care of a couple of minor things:

Run HiJackThis and click "Do a system scan only", then check(tick) the following, if present:

With all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

From "Safe Mode", (Reboot if necessary.) locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you're able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

To show hidden files :

1. Click Start=>Control Panel=>Folder Options=>View tab.
2. Select "Show hidden files and folders"
3. Clear the check mark in "Hide protected operating system files"=>Yes to confirm.
4. Click Apply=>OK.
5. Close Control Panel.

Search for...

V3.exe

...using "Start=>Search...".

Note that some of these file(s) may not be present.

Once the above steps have been completed, I'd like you to run the following scan, which will give a much more detailed report of what's going on in your machine.

Please run Deckard's System Scanner (Thanks Susan528 for the canned.)

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

1. Close all applications and windows.
2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post. in your reply
