My HijackThis Log

Unread postby FiveToOne86 » November 9th, 2007, 8:52 pm

Hi. I'm having problems with Downloader.MisleadApp and possibly TrojanVundo too. I've run several scans with AdAware 2007, SpyBot Search and Destroy, Housecall, and Symantec. I've followed Symantec's directions for getting rid of Downloader.MisleadApp and TrojanVundo, but to no avail. Here's my HijackThis log. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Step 1

Please download ATF Cleaner. Double-click on ATF-Cleaner.exe to start the program.

  • If you use the Firefox browser:
Click on Firefox at the top and put a check next to Select All.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, click No at the prompt.
Click the Empty Selected button. (Note: if you remove cookies, automated login at forums and sites will be disabled. If you do not want this, uncheck Cookies)
  • If you use the Opera browser:

Uninstall List

Unread postby FiveToOne86 » November 10th, 2007, 5:29 pm

When I press "Save list..." the box just closes and doesn't show me where it's saving. Where can I find the list it's saving? Thanks.

That sometimes happens. Let's get a different Uninstall List:

Please download and install CCleaner.
  • Open CCleaner. In the Left Pane, click Tools.
  • Verify that Uninstall is highlighted in color, or click on it.
  • In the lower right, click Save to Text File.
  • Pull down the arrow at the top of the Save dialog and choose Desktop as the location.
  • You can leave the filename as install.txt.
  • Click Save.
  • Exit Ccleaner by clicking on the X button in the upper right of the CCleaner window.

Hello. I completed Step 1, but when Combofix restarted my computer and produced the log, I couldn't access the Internet. Every time I restart my computer, the Windows Start bar is gone, something comes up about installing new hardware for the printer, and I can't access the Internet. If I click on Internet Explorer from an icon on the desktop, a window pops up but then disappears. I restarted in Safe Mode and am having the same problem (I'm using a different computer right now).

Hi :)

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Please try this:

Copy the text below into a Notepad (Go to Start > Run, type Notepad and hit Enter) document:

Code: Select all
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\lsa]
"Authentication Packages"=hex(7):6d,73,76,31,5f,30,00,6e,77,76,31,5f,30,00,00

Note: Make sure there is no blank line before REGEDIT4 and one blank line at the end.

Go to File > Save As:. Save the file as "Fix.reg" (Including the quotes)

Double-click on Fix.reg. When asked if you want to merge the file with the registry, click Yes.

Reboot your computer. Please let me know whether the problem is resolved.

Hi :)

Step 1

We'll need to run another CFScript. Please delete the one you currently have and do the following:

Open Notepad (Go to Start > Run, type Notepad and hit Enter), and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Code: Select all
File::

C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxgyyvjf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.dll

Click on File > Save as....

In the File Name box, copy/paste CFScript.txt (Note: Do not change the filename!)

Click Save.

Image

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.
It will create a log. Be sure to save it to a convenient location.

Step 2

Please go to this page and select your Norton product. Follow the instructions to delete your quarantine files.

Step 3

Your Java software is out of date. Follow these instructions to update it:

  • Go to Start and click on Control Panel, then double-click on Add or Remove Programs.
  • Search for previously installed versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment), and remove it. It should have this icon next to it: Image
  • Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3.

Step 4

In your next reply, please post:

  • the Combofix log (C:\Combofix.txt)
  • a new HijackThis log
  • How is your computer running now?

I use Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.01, and I'm not sure how to delete the quarantine files because this version isn't listed on the webpage you linked. I can get to a list of quarantined items, and if I right-click on them, I have the option to delete permanently. Is this what I want to do? Thanks.

Congratulations, your log looks clean. Please advise of any problems you are still experiencing, or follow these simple steps to keep your computer clean in the future:

Click Start then Run....

  • Type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. (Note: The space between the x and the /u needs to be there)

    Image
  • When shown the disclaimer, select 2.

Disable and Enable System Restore - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

Step 1: Turn off System Restore:

  • On the desktop, right-click My Computer
  • Click Properties
  • Click the System Restore tab
  • Check Turn off System Restore
  • Click Apply, and then click OK

Step 2: Reboot your computer.

Step 3: Turn on System Restore:

  • On the desktop, right-click My Computer
  • Click Properties
  • Click the System Restore tab
  • Uncheck Turn off System Restore
  • Click Apply, and then click OK

Note: Only do this once, NOT on a regular basis!

Make your Internet Explorer More Secure

  • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab.
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.

    • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt.
    • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable.
    • Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable.
    • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt.
    • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt.
    • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt.
    • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.

  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Update your Anti-Virus Software - It is very imprtant that you update your anti-virus software at least once a week (even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti-virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that will come out.

Visit Microsoft's Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://update.microsoft.com/ regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. An article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:
Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Stand Up and Be Counted! - Please take the time to tell us what you would like to be done about the people who are behind all the problems you have had. We can only get something done about this if the people that we help, like you, are prepared to complain. We have a dedicated forum for collecting these complaints: Malware Complaints. You have to be registered to post. After registering just find your country room and register your complaint. The infection you had was Vundo (Virtumundo)

I started following your steps with ComboFix, and as soon as I did that, my virus software said it found a virus, and the command prompt is just a blinking cursor in a blue screen.
