You have helped me in the past and I trust you. Great to see that you now have your own forum.
Now to the problem... I am helping a friend with her daughters Compaq laptop. I don't know what the initial problem was...but she talked to HP and they told her to do a CD restore...so she did. I guess she still had problems (don't know what they were)...so she took the laptop to CompUSA and they did some work for $160. Don't know what they did. She finally told me she was having problems connecting to the internet.
Laptop would not connect to the wireless router. Connection was disabled.. I fixed that and got online using IE went to a couple of websites and then closed IE. When I opened IE again it would not go to any websites. Had to reboot the computer. IE worked again...downloaded Spybot S&D, SpyBlaster, SpyGuard, AdAware, got all updates and ran all. Nothing really big found. Also downloaded Mozilla Firefox and installed. Same thing happened - opened fine on first try, websites opened. After closing browser and reopening I could not get to any websites. Had to reboot laptop and then both browsers worked on first opening.
Could Norton 2005 Firewall be causing the problem?
Here is her HJT log. I ran it with the browser opened and I do know that if anything needs to be fixed that Everything needs to be closed.
