Hello, and welcome to the forum.

My name is Simon V., and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.
I am currently looking over your log. As I am a trainee, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

    Hi ian e,

    Rename HijackThis

  • Please right-click on HijackThis.exe and choose Rename. Rename it to Scanner.exe.

    Make an Uninstall List
  • To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

    1. Start HijackThis
    2. Click on the Config button
    3. Click on the Misc Tools button
    4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

    Image

    5. Click on the Save list... button and save the file to a convenient location. When you press Save, Notepad will open with the contents of that file.

    ComboFix
  • Please download Combofix from one of the links below:

    http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
    http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
  • Double-click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please post the contents of that log, along with a new HijackThis (Scanner) log and the uninstall list from HijackThis in your next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

If I click on the 'combofix.txt', it tells me that I don't have rights to view and that it has a hidden .bat extension, etc:

Hi ian e,

Actually, that’s not the log I wanted :) Please navigate to your local hard disk (C: ), and click on ComboFix.txt. Probably you cannot see the extension, the file should look like this: Image. Please post the correct Combofix log, so we can move on :)

Does this look like the one you need?
The one that was there before has disappeared now (????).
It wouldn't let me open it as it had a .bat extension.
I got this from within the combo fix folder itself.

Let me know if I need to run Combo fix again.

I have just re-run ComboFix.
It stays on 'Almost done' for an eternity.
The file on C: is showing as a .bat file still and will not give a log.
I have looked in the ComboFix folder and it has given this updated log:

ComboFix 07-06-11.3 - C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\Desktop\ComboFix.exe

    Hi ian e,

    Show Hidden Files and Folders

  • Be sure that you are set to see hidden files and folders:
    • Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
    • Double-click on the My Computer icon.
    • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    • After the new window appears select the View tab.
    • Put a checkmark in the checkbox labelled Display the contents of system folders.
    • Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
    • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labelled Hide file extensions for known file types.
    • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labelled Hide protected operating system files.
    • Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
    Fix Entries with HijackThis

  • Navigate to the following files/folders using Windows Explorer and delete them when found:

    C:\QooBox\ <-- Folder

  • Please post the report from the Kaspersky Online scan, along with a final HijackThis log in your next reply and tell me how everything is working.
