Hi NEKHUL.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe :(

This is OK (the file is in the correct location).

-----------------------------------------------

Close all open windows. Use Ctrl-Alt-Delete together to open Task Manager.
Under the processes tab, if it is visible, check the box Show processes from all users.
One at a time, highlight each of these, right-click and select End Process

mbssm32.exe
mbsrm32.exe

-----------------------------------------------

Run HijackThis and click Scan and then check (tick) the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mbssm32] C:\WINDOWS\system32\mbssm32.exe

Close down all programs, browsers and other open windows. Make sure that only the above item is checked and then click on Fix checked.

----------------------------------------------

You will need to reboot your computer into Safe Mode for the next steps. N.B. It would be a good idea for you to print these instructions, as you will not have access to the internet.

Important: If you have an 'always on' connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.

Boot to Safe Mode. To do this:
  • Restart your computer.
  • Continually tap the F8 button as your computer is booting (a menu appears).
  • Use up-arrow key to select Safe Mode and press Enter.
------------------------------------------------

Show hidden System Files
  • Click Start
  • Open My Computer
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
  • Select the View tab
  • Advanced Settings:
    • Under Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files and folders
    • Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types
    • Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  • Click Apply to All Folders
  • Click Yes to confirm
  • Click OK
------------------------------------------------------

Delete Files

Click on Start then My Computer, find the following files and folders (highlighted in red) and delete them, if present. Don't worry if any are missing, but please let me know.

C:\Windows\System32\mbsrm32.exe <- File only
C:\Windows\System32\mbssm32.exe <- File only
C:\Windows\System32\mbsmon32.exe <- File only
C:\Windows\System32\mbsreg32.exe <- File only
C:\Windows\System32\ubsauthenticateaxc.ocx <- File only
C:\Windows\System32\ubsauthenticateaxc1.ocx <- File only
C:\Windows\System32\winregmon32.exe <- File only
C:\Windows\System32\winsysmon32.exe <- File only
C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files\MBSInstallerAXC.ocx <- File only

mbsauthenticate.exe <- You will need to search for this file. Be careful to make sure that the spelling is exactly the same before deleting it. If in doubt, then stop and ask me.

----------------------------------------------------

Reboot the computer normally

----------------------------------------------------

Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Please post the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply.
Note: Apart from producing the reports, the scanner will also:
  • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP
  • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • run HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

---------------------------------------------------

Please post the Deckard reports (main.txt and extra.txt)
