Hi,
I recently was infected with some nasty malware (about:blank homepage, search extender, shopping wizard, onlyU popup ads and some added browser favorites.

I think i pretty much fixed the majority of the problem but when i start my pc internet explorer pops-up and lauches by itself. I don't know if i overlooked something.. below is my HiJackThis Log:

Hi and welcome to the fourm,

I have a question, you are not running a Security Pack for your Windows OS. Neither SP1 or SP2.

Is there a reason for this? Did you have a problem downloading it? If so perhaps I can help?

I tried to get the Service packs... but i can't install them... I end up downloading them but then can't install them.... I guess it my copy of windows xp pro.

i am able to download them but then i can't install them i get some message.... can't remeber... but lets just say my XP copy was not purchased..... little birdy passed it on to me. lol

The other reason for this is that when you cannot update windows you will be back time and again with such problems.

Its not an illegal copy, it was purchased within the household. My bro purchased it for his pc and then installed it on mine.

One copy per one machine - it is legal on his machine - it is illegal on yours. That is why it cannot update for the security patches.

Read the EULA of the software.
