Unread postby dave555 » April 5th, 2007, 11:43 am

I received an e-mail saying "britney spears nude" , as the mail loaded I was instantly infected . I have received another 200 e-mails with the same subject line so it seems to be a massive one!!

Norton and most online scanners cannot detect it. It sends out thousands of e-mails from the infected pc and infects others.. I can see norton e-mail scanner sending thousands... my pc is turned off. Here is the log! Please help!

Hello and welcome.

You got yourself a neasty infection indeed. In addition to the spambot, you may have a rootkit on board too. Several files may have been infected by a file infector.

It is possible that we can't fix your PC. Do you have the XP cd handy just in case we need to replace critical system files from Recovery Console ?

Hijackthis has been renamed, I need it running under it's original name.
Download HijackThis to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/HJTsetup.exe

Double click on HJTSetup.exe and by default it should install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This
Continue through the setup and let it create a Desktop Icon.
Follow all the prompts, click Finish, and let the installer start HijackThis.
Click the Do a System Scan and Save a Log File option.
Notepad will open with the Hijackthis log, please post it's content here. Do not rename Hijackthis and turn of wordwrap in Notepad please.
______________________________

Make sure that you can see hidden files.
  1. Click Start.
  2. Click My Computer.
  3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  4. Select the View Tab.
  5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  7. Click Yes to confirm.
  8. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  9. Click OK.
______________________________

Download Systemscan.exe and save it to the desktop.
http://www.suspectfile.com/upload/files ... emscan.exe

Double click it to run.
Check the following items:

- suspicious files: compressed with UPX, FSG, Polycrypt, Upack and others
All the rest are already checked.
OK the prompt.
Click "scan now"
OK the prompt.

**Note
This scan will take a while so please be patient.
This tool does not fix anything. it just does a scan and generates a log.
Once done the log should pop up.

C:\suspectfile\report.txt

Post log please. It may take 3 posts to get whole logs in.
______________________________

Open Explorer, locate c:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe and upload it to http://virusscan.jotti.org/ or http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexx.html
Post results here.
______________________________

Copy/paste the following quote box into a new notepad (not wordpad) document.

@echo off
cd %systemdrive%\
dir /s *.rgn > %systemdrive%\filestxt
start %systemdrive%\files.txt

Save it to your Desktop as mslook.bat. Save it as:
File Type: All Files (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name: mslook.bat

Locate mslook.bat on your Desktop and double-click it. When notepad opens, copy/paste the content in your reply.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Notice!
A new version of Kaspersky Virus Scanner has been released on August 8, 2006. If you have installed a previous version, you must unistall that program first before installing the new version. To uninstall, please go to the computer control panel and select "Add/Remove Programs." Close all Internet Explorer windows before uninstalling the Kaspersky Online Scanner.

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save Report As button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • File Type: Text file (*.txt).
    • Name: Kav.txt for example
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
Please post all requested logs, make sure to use several replies, especially for the systemscan log or they will get cut of.
