After all you've done for me, it looks like it was the newer version of ZA that I had installed that caused this. Although, like you said my pc has had a major spring clean, thanks to you.

Good morning Steve.

That's excellent - I'm pleased that everthing's working again. It definitely looks as if the ZA update caused your problem. It's better to be safe than sorry though. The AWF infection, I thought you had, is not too bad to get rid of in itself. The problem is that it removes your security programs and then pulls in all sorts of the worst type of 'nasty'. It can be a fight even to run some of the diagnostic tools.

We just need to tidy up now. You can delete:
  • FindAWF and its report
  • Blacklight and its report
  • WinPFind2 and its report
You can uninstall AVG Anti-Spyware, if you wish. I suggest that you keep ATF Cleaner as it is a useful tool.

You've got a good level of protection on your computer. If you do not already use it, I suggest that you install SpywareBlaster This program will:
  • Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, diallers, and other potentially unwanted software.
  • Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
  • Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
This program blocks these items, but does not run in the background. It therefore does not use any resources.

I would also recommend that you have a look at McAfee SiteAdvisor and Firetrust SiteHound. These both give warnings when you are about to enter a website that is on their 'block' list. I use SiteHound, but both have a good reputation (N.B. use only one of them, not both).

Hi Beynac, I've already saved ATF Cleaner as you said it does seem very good, the others I hoped we wouldn't need again, so I deleted them.

It probably wasn't needed, but I've done an Avast boot scan, and spyware scans this morning, also increased my system restore capacity as it was set a little on the low side. ( I've also backed up.. again)

I already have SpywareBlaster installed, and to be honest always thought I had too much, but I have never had any issues so have left it all installed.

It just remains for me to say thank you for your time and help, even though it wasn't as bad as we both had first thought, I am grateful for your input, and advice. But I also would like to mention, with all the programs you had me run, the pc seems alot better and everything is working as it was, and should. ( Who would have known a ZA update could cause this much grief).

Thanks again, and see you back on the PCA Forum.
