Good Evening spammed!

I have had a chance to review your current log.
Your HijackThis log does not show signs of any active malware so I would like to know:-
  • How is your system running now ?
  • Are you experiencing any of your original problems ?

It is important that you reply promptly with this information otherwise it means that I will keep having to ask for you to repeat scans and procedures and generate new logs.

This all takes a lot of time that we would not need to spend if your responses were more prompt, and I'm sure you appreciate that I am dealing with several other clients who also need my help as they are in the same boat as yourself.

As soon as you post I will review what you have said and reply as soon as possible.

wow!

Unread postby spammed! » March 7th, 2007, 10:22 am

wow i am impressed...i tried this new program called spyware nuker XT and got rid of somethings that the other programs couldnt find so that must be what finally cleared it. the only thing im experiencing now is that (and i realize that this is mainly my problem to deal with) whilst downloading files through bitcomet some of the files have logged extensively more data inflow then the percentage complete would indicate. to me this just tells me that someone was able to hack into the bitcomet program and input their own data into the download. one instance is that i have been downloading this item that is 100 mb or so and its is at 92% complete yet it reports having downloaded 1.8 GB of data overall; just seems that the data keeps coming but the %age never increases. i think this is my problem like i said and i will work on fixing it by communicating with the producer of the program. but other than that my computer hasnt shown any new viruses and it runs great...i appreciate all of your help and putting up with my lengthy log reports. thanks alot man!

I fear i may have contracted the softwarebundler:Win32/KaZaA virus somehow and it shut down my norton's autoprotect and erased the systemroot/system32/Autochk.exe registry entry so that that error is produced upon boot everytime...also my CRTL+ALT+DELETE keystroke has been disabled! i did a system restore and upon the boot after doing so i got all the errors produced above and no confirmation came up saying whether or not the restore worked so im very worried...heres a fresh HJT report for further inspection...sorry i really thot we were in the clear for a minute there...

I fear i may have contracted the softwarebundler:Win32/KaZaA virus somehow

You may very well have, this is an infection that is spread by the use of P2P file sharing.
I have warned of the dangers of using P2P file sharing and asked you to refrain from using P2P until I gave the all clear - you have totally ignored my advice.
In one of your latest posts you also informed me that you downloaded a program Spyware Nuker XT, this is a rogue anti spyware program and will undoubtedly do your system more harm than good, again you did this without my advice.

sorry i really thot we were in the clear for a minute there...

We were indeed very close to being clean but your persistant inability to follow my instructions and contravene the steps I advised has caused your system to be infected with new malware mainly because you have again used P2P file sharing which I specifically asked you not to do.

If I carried on attempting to clean your system I could be still doing so in 6 months time because I will never know for sure whether you are following my instructions or not, this would be a waste of both your time and mine. As a result of the new infection that you inform me of, it would mean that I would have to now advise running some more scans and posting a fresh HijackThis log and perhaps an uninstall log, after reading that latest log you could be still using P2P which would mean more new steps and instructions and so on and so on.

Because of the reasons I have given above and the new malware plus the fact we haven't entirely cleaned you up from the original problem I am left with only one real piece of advice.
I advise that you reformat your system and start from scratch.
This of course gives you a fresh start and a chance to think about how your system got infected in the first place and also how therefore that you can prevent this from happening again. Should you require advice on what to do after the reformat to better boost your systems security then on this occasion I will be only too happy to advice you on this.

I am sorry that I can no longer help you with your system in it's current state but believe that the reformat is the best advice for now.

I shall now request that this thread be archived.

It's really a shame when we are forced to recommend reformatting simply because instructions are not being followed, regardless of the number of requests made by the helper. Every effort has been made to help you for over a month, all to no avail. Therefore, you have left us with no other options.

Accordingly, this topic is now closed.
