problems with running spybot

Unread postby minga » February 17th, 2005, 7:27 am

Hi
I have just bought a new computer and have Nortons Anti Virus and running windows xp.

I have downloaded spybot and run it but when it finished i got the message

Error during check
Winpup32

I have uninstalled numerous times and reinstalled but still the same error.

I also cannot get the updates - it simply will not work.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Please provide a hijackthis log - you can download it from the download button at the top of this forum.

Get the self installing version for its ease of use - download and save to your desktop - then double click to run.

It will leave a icon to run from your desktop. Run that - scan - save log.

That will open a notepad file - copy and paste the FULL contents of that file here for me to see please.

DO NOT USE HIJACKTHIS TO FIX ANYTHING WITH EXPERT ADVISE, lots of what it finds is required for normal workings of your system.

Well that log looks almost clean - just the p2p software which may have been part of a KaZaA install.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\system32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART
O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

If so - and you have removed KaZaA (it will not work now as all its sponsor programs look like they have been removed) use add/remove progras from control pannel to rid yourself of this left over.

This program I can find very little detail on.
C:\Program Files\SlDB\SlDB.exe
C:\Program Files\SlDB\SlDBMT.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Streamload Downloader.lnk = C:\Program Files\SlDB\SlDB.exe

BUT you are running it from a global startup folder (start - programs - startup) which normally should mean that you will know of it yourself.

Please advise if wrong.

Re spybot - open that and change to the advanced mode.

Now when you try to get the updates it should provide a drop down box where you can choice which download site you will use.

Try that and let me know.

SIDB - I think it is to do with my downloader from Streamload (I download music and store it on this site) and it should stay.

I started spybot in advanced mode but I am not sure I am getting the download mirrors.

Anyway I selected all the downloads that came up in the box and nothing is happening. It has "hung" as before.
