firehooves

Well done. Please try to restrict your Internet Surfing untill we get this infection under control.
Please be patient, it will take a couple of runs at this before we remove all of the infections.

First Go to Add/Remove Programs (Click Start->>Control Panel->>Add/Remove Programs)
And uninstall the following programs
    Internet Optimizer
    ISTsvc
    McAfee SecurityCenter
    <<- See Note Below->>
    SideFind
    Surf Accuracy
    Viewpoint Media Player
Note: Running 2 antivirus programs is never a good idea, since they both do the same job,
running 2 can cause conflicts, poor system performance, and even allow some
Malware to slip by. Since Norton's seems to be your primary AV, uninstall Mcafee. If this is not the case,
please stop and reply before proceeding

Reboot your PC

Next Rerun Hijackthis (scan only) and place checks beside the following entries (some may not be there
because of Uninstall programs)

Close all other open windows except Hijackthis and Select "Fix checked"

Close Hijackthis

Next Using Windows Explorer
Locate and delete the following folders (if found)
    C:\Program Files\SideFind
    C:\Program files\mcafee
    C:\Program Files\ISTsvc
    C:\Program Files\SurfAccuracy
    C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer

Close Windows Explorer

Finally Reboot your PC->> Rerun Hijackthis->> and post a fresh Hijackthis log

thanks bamajim

but, McAfee would not delete because it said i needed to uninstall all services first?? I dont understand what that means
and Internet Optimizer just wouldn't go away. I have tried deleting it before, and it didn't work then either. I click to uninstall it and it says "This will remove Internet Optimizer from installed programs. Do you want to continue?" I click yes, and then it asks me to close all explorer and internet explorer windows. I do. But then it doesnt leave the add/remove list.
Is it alright to proceed with your instructions? or should I wait until these two are deleted first?

To Remove Mcafee we need to turn it off first
Open the Mcafee program (Rt click the Icon in the lower tray)
    If its the internet version
there will be a series of tabs on the left side of the window
    Open each tab
At the top of the open tab there will be a place to turn off that function
By a stop light, once clicked it will prompt are you sure->>Yes
Do that for each tab then close McAfee
It will then allow you to uninstall it

Next Open Taskmanager (Rt click a blank space on your toolbar->>Taskmanger)
On The processes tab
    Locate
    optimize.exe
    Hilite it ->>Select End Task
    Close taskmanager

Then see if you can uninstall Internet Optimizer

One Note here: If you have an "Always on Internet connection" Then physically disconnect from the Internet before you uninstall Internet Optimizer

McAfee:
I never installed it on my computer, it was just there when I got it, so nothing in it is installed, and there is no functions to turn off. (i checked each of the tabs, they are all "buy this!" and "download this").
Image

I did notice that in my Hijackthis log, it says

O23 - Service: McAfee WSC Integration (McDetect.exe) - McAfee, Inc - c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee Task Scheduler (McTskshd.exe) - McAfee, Inc - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mctskshd.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager (mcupdmgr.exe) - McAfee, Inc - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\mcupdmgr.exe

and i said in the next post that " McAfee would not delete because it said i needed to uninstall all services first " ...that may not be relevant, but just something i noticed.

As for my task manager, optimize.exe is not there. I haven't noticed it anywhere before. But, my task manager did get messed up somehow (i dont know when)... there are no tabs at the top anymore? and i have to close it by clicking my Esc key, so would it be in another section of the task manager that i cannot access?
Image
Either way, I disconnected my internet and it still would not uninstall that way. Maybe it is already uninstalled but just won't leave the list? Internet Optimizer used to be around and bother me, but i clicked to uninstall it and it didnt leave the list, but no longer is visibly around

Firehooves

Re open taskmanager, yours is displayed in minimal mode.

Place your mouse on the outside border and double click it. The tabs should return. The tab we are looking for is "Running Processes"
Then follow the instructions in the previous post.

wow, i should have figured that out

i ended "optimize.exe" and closed all my internet windows, disconnected my internet and it still would not leave the add/remove program list. (awfully stubborn it is!)

Rerun Hijackthis
    At the Main window
    Select "Open Misc Tool Section"
    Then Select "Open Uninstall Manger"
Select Internet Optimizer in the list
    Then Select "Delete this entry"

Reboot your PC

Then check and make sure it is gone, if so proceed with the rest of the fix.

I reran hijackthis, checked all of the files that you specified, except a couple that were not there, and fixed them.
I deleted the folders under "Program Files" that you said, and "Surf Accuracy" was the only one that wasn't there.
I rebooted, and ran hijack this. here is the new log:
