Hmmm.... seems the new version(6.5) is giving users some issues. Didn't know about this... sorry. I'm using version 6.1 still.

I'd suggest uinstalling the new version... complete instructions can be found here.

Then download and install version 6.1 from here.

Adversely... you could try the Comodo Firewall or Kerio Personal Firewall.

I haven't tried out the Comodo Firewall as of yet. The Kerio Firewall is a fully functional 30 day Trial that reverts to a limited free version after the 30 days is over.

I've done the same to every PC in my house. I must say, never thought it took so much to protect a computer from malware...
