How are things with the accounts ?

I would have to say that things are going well. Compared to what was, it looks squeaky clean. I haven't seen any virus related symptoms (spelling?, doesnt look right) in a while actually. The only thing I am concerned about is the slow login time and the delay I see when clicking on my login icon. The text box has a few second delay in appearing, and the text doesnt display while typing until several seconds after im done. If thats not virus related then I would say we are good. If you have a suggestion on what might be causing that we would sure appreciate that.

Not sure if we are finishing up, but if so, is there a maintenance schedule you would recommend?
We have avg, online armour.

Maybe malbytes occasionally? A post of HJT to this sight occasionally?

Dan, we appreciate all your help, I know its been grueling!

Sorry for delay,I got behind last night and was playing catchup :(
I forgot to ask are you running an hp scanner at all? Not had much luck with looking for your specific problem. So, as I said I will give you some links to ask experts in that field as my expertise is in malware.
Your maintenance you asked about maybe once a quarter. Remember with programs such as malwarebytes update before running as new definitions are being brought out on a regular basis.By all means have your HJT log checked when you feel you may have a problem.

These links maybe helpful to help resolve your other issues:

I'm sure I gave you this link in a previous post but here it is again. An interesting read also:http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/slowcomputer.html

Hope this has been a little helpful.
If you do get it resolved drop me a mail as I like to know how you got on.

We have an HP officejet d135 which is a printer/scanner/copier combo unit.

Just in case...We have a sony 52x/32x/52x/16x DVD ROM as D:, a Lite-On LTN486S 48x Max CD player as E:

The AVG automatic scheduled scan ran about 6 hours yesterday, and wants to run everyday. Is that necessary, or how often should I schedule it to run?

Also, sorry, I misunderstood, so our maintenance routine should be to update everthing, then run which products quarterly?

Just dissconect it from the pc for a day to see if there is any change with your login slow down.

Depends every one is different, I wouldn't need it to run every day, maybe once a month. if your only a light Internet user maybe longer.

most of the your antimalware programs will need you to check for updates for individual programs, as I said new definitions come out on a regular bases.
So before you do some maintenance ie, first sunday of the month, update your programs and run your scans, re-boot in between scans.
Hope that has cleared your queries.

Ok, disconnect the Printer. Cool.

Ok, call me stupid...What products should I run to do the scans first Sunday of each month?
dan12 MRU Honors Grad Emeritus
Ok, malwarebytes a good program, spybot s&d, adaware se. Defrag your system on say a quarterly if you hit analyze button it will tell you if it's needed. :)
Then if you wanted to, do yourself an online scan.
