A Hosts file is like a phone book. You look up someone's name in the phone book before calling him/her. Similarly, your PC will look up the website's IP address before you can view the website.
Hosts file will replace your current Hosts file with another one containing well-known advertisement sites, spyware sites and other bad sites. This new Hosts file will protect you by re-directing these bad sites to 127.0.0.1.

Spybot Search & Destroy is another program for scanning spywares and adwares. Not only so, it has other preventive options as well. You are strongly encouraged to run a scan at least once per week.

Generally, if the backdoor files are there, your antivirus will be able to detect it and warn you about it, provided that you keep your antivirus updated. Don't take this for granted though, some files can go undetected as malware changes so often that it's impossible to catch up with the changes.
You might also receive warnings from your firewall about some unknown programs trying to access the Internet. That's why it's important to have both an antivirus program and firewall.

That isn't a threat to your computer. It's Flash player, that allows your web browser to view Flash media, for example, the Youtube videos online.
I almost forgotten that you have not installed any firewall on your computer.
There is no sign of a firewall installed on your system. There are several reasons for it.
- You are using Windows Firewall.
- You are using a hardware firewall.
- You have a firewall, but you disabled it.
- You don't have a firewall at all.
If you have disabled the firewall, please re-enable it back. If you don't have one, please get ONE firewall and install it. Restart the computer for changes to take effect.

No its just spy bot search and destroy found a few things.. most were cookies.. this whole situation just turned me so paranoid Do you have a link to a guide for reformatting? i couldnt seem to find one
