Hi,
Hello Cypher .... How are you buddy?

Im good thank you, hope all is well with you to :)

Excellent.
Well that confirms that one or both of those add-ons is the cause of your problems.
You can either remove both of them, or re-enable them one at a time to see which one is the culprit.
Re-enable HotSpot shield first, it could be that one.
Or i can remove both of them for you, what would you like to do?
Hello Cypher ...

Id like to really pinpoint what the problem is, so I can avoid it moving forward ...

Ive re-enabled hotspot shield helper .... and will wait to see if any redirects occur

I also have cookies and webpage redirects disabled on firefox ..... should I enabled both now?
Hi,

Yes, go ahead and enabled both.
Ive re-enabled hotspot shield helper .... and will wait to see if any redirects occur

No problem let me know how it goes, once you track down the culprit i can give you final instructions.
hey Cypher...

Thats fantastic buddy ....

I've enabled hotspot shield helper, allowed cookies and webpage redirects ...

will report later on in the day on whether there have been redirects to adverts

thanks a bunch!
thanks a bunch!

My pleasure :)
will report later on in the day on whether there have been redirects to adverts

Yes, keep me updated :thumbleft:
Hello Cypher

as stated earlier, I've enabled cookies and webpage redirects ... in addition to enabling hotspot shield helper, and so far, I have not gotten a single advert redirect.

It is looking very promising.

I will be enabling the other one tomorrow (its 2am down here) and giving it a run all day .... I'll see if i get any redirects then, hopefully pinpointing the problem.

Thank you again Cypher .... ill get back to you tomorrow with another update.

No problem :)
Hello Cypher

So here is the latest update ....

Ive had both add-ons enabled, cookies enabled and webpage redirects allowed .... and all day not a single advert redirect, funny enough!

I dunno what to make of that honestly .... but so far all is good!
Hi,
Ive had both add-ons enabled, cookies enabled and webpage redirects allowed .... and all day not a single advert redirect, funny enough!

That is odd.
The fact that the advert/redirects stopped when running FF in safe mode, pointed to one of your add-ons being the cause of the problem.
Running FF in safe mode disables all add-ons, i still think one of those two is the culprit.
As you don't seem to be experiencing any problems now you should be good to go.

Your latest set of logs appear to be clean!
This is my general post for when your logs show no more signs of malware.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Clean up with OTL

  • Right click on OTL.exe And select Run as administrator to run it.
  • This will remove some of the tools we used to clean your pc.
  • Close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot
  • On the OTL main screen, press the CleanUp! button
  • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.

You can now delete any tools/logs we used if they remain on your Desktop.

Remember to update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Microsoft Windows Update
Microsoft releases patches for Windows and Office products regularly to patch up Windows and Office products loopholes and fix any bugs found. Install the updates immediately if they are found.
To update Windows
Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Update > Check for updates.
To update Office
Open up any Office program.
Go to Help > Check for Updates

I would be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.
