Hi, Cypher. I just completed another full Malwarebytes scan in order to clean out that last file. I also tried backing up my system, but there remains a problem, and it won't back up. Perhaps it is a hardware failure of some kind. Any suggestions for diagnosing the problem? I'd also like to get your recommendations for keepng a step ahead of malware, as I continue to frequent FB.
All in all, Cypher, you are my new, best friend. I can't thank you enough for getting me out of this pickle and for being such a gentleman (woman?) along with it. That's a rarity these days. From here, I'll back-track and finish downloading the utilities that you've recommended. If any other issues crop up, can I post them here, or should I begin a new thread?
Again, Cypher, thank you ever so much.
Hi briolette.
your most welcome

You might want to try uninstalling Live OneCare then installing it again to see if that solves the problem.
Or have a look at an alternative.

I will keep this topic open for a couple of days just incase you have any other questions, after that you will have to start a new topic.
On a final note, I really find the directions for creating a new
Hosts file verrrrrrrrrrrrry confusing. I understand the concept well enough - the writer's definition is pretty clear - it's the instructions for replacing my existing one that I don't understand. I'll keep at it though, maybe something will connect in my brain.
Alrighty then...have a good weekend, Cypher!!
Update to Hosts File: Found this link with better instructions. Cross your fingers, please, that I did this correctly...au revoir!
