Many thanks for all your help, its really appreciated.

The only hing that still concerns me is the Norton Security Scan icon that appeared on my desktop. I havent used Norton, and didnt intentionally download it. I suspect it is malware but dont want click on it at all. Can I remove it safely through add/remove programmes, or would that also do damage if it is malware. I think it appeared half way through our cleaning at a time when my firewall was down over night as I ran something!

Hi,

If you wish to remove Norton Security Scan, please follow these instructions:

  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
  • Click on Norton Security Scan
  • Click on Remove or Uninstall. Follow the prompts to uninstall Norton.

Run Batchfile

Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text in the quote to Notepad. Save it as "All Files" and name it RemoveIt.bat Please save it on your desktop.

@echo off
RD /S /Q "C:\Program Files\Norton Security Scan"
RD /S /Q "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton"
RD /S /Q "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NortonInstaller"
RD /S /Q "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec"
RD /S /Q "C:\Program Files\NortonInstaller"
DEL /q /a /f "C:\WINDOWS\tasks\Norton Security Scan for Mark.job"
exit

Double click RemoveIt.bat. A window will open and close. This is normal.

Norton should be removed.

How is everything running now?
