There is no Windows Firewall/Internet Connection in the services list. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Bob
bobl,

Working on how to re-instate that service.

Please check (using services.msc) that the following service is Enabled and Running:
Windows Management Instrumentation

thanks

Yes, it is enabled and running.
bobl,

Thanks. We are researching this issue on yours and one other log. There may be a conflict with the Symantec AntiVirus here, but we aren't sure yet.

In case we need it, download one of these free anti-virus programs and save the installer where you can find it.
Don't install the program yet.
*AntiVir Free from here : http://www.free-av.com/
*Avast Home Edition from here : http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html
*Grisoft AVG from here : http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

bobl,
May have some help here.

Download sharedaccess.reg from here : http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/sharedaccess.reg and save to your Desktop. Then double-click the file to merge the contents with the registry. The Services entry will be created.
Restart Windows (mandatory step, otherwise the following NETSH command will display an error message).

After restarting Windows, Go To Start, Run and type NETSH FIREWALL RESET

Launch firewall applet from Control Panel, and then configure your Windows Firewall settings.
Please let me know how it goes

Found a site a few days ago with a similar registry patch. It seemed to do the trick. I appreciate all your help. This site rocks!
