spected malware although Avast finds no problems

Hello. I've had a new pc since June and it seems like it's time for its first Malware removal. The free version of Avast I have says I'm free from viruses. But I have another person telling me that the link to a photo that I sent her in a Facebook message has ads on it, when see uses Facebook with her Mac. I can't see those ads in my message.
