adware on internet explorer and adware takes over rhapsody

I have a problem where ads embed in the right margin of internet explorer. They are often displaying ads for ilivid, ads telling me I have won some prize, or ads shaped like smartphones. These ads embed when I start rhapsody up and make it so I can't access the rhapsody software homepage (music guide). I guess rhapsody must use some part of internet explorer?
