The behaviour with Internet explorer and Google chrome is thesame for the search.
This is the copied link from the browser is pasted below:

That is most likely related to one of the toolbars installed on your computers. I'm going to ask the other helpers here for some input. Perhaps they can narrow this down for us.

Let's try reverting Internet Explorer to the default settings:

Reset IE8

• Please download Microsoft FixIt and save it to the desktop.
  
• Double click on MicrosoftFixit50195.exe select I Agree and click on Next.
  
• Follow the on-screen prompts.
  
• You may delete MicrosoftFixit50195.exe when finished and or keep it if any problems in the future with IE8.
  
• Next time IE8 is launched you will be prompted to reapply settings again, this is normal.
  
  
• Note: Any add-ons will require to be reapplied after the above reset.

Let's set the default search engine in Google Chrome:

Set your default search engine

1. Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.
   
2. Select Options (Preferences on Mac; Settings on Chrome OS).
   
3. Click the Basics tab and find the "Search" section.
   
4. Select the search engine you want to use from the menu. If the search engine you want to use doesn't appear in the menu, click Manage search engines.
   
5. In the Search Engines dialog that appears, select the search engine that you'd like to use from the list.
   
6. Click the Make Default button that appears in the row.

Please test both browsers and let me know if the issue is resolved.
If the search engine you want to use isn't on this list, you can first add it as a new search engine option.

Do not know if i could get my computer to run faster? It runs slow occassionally. Its a new one but i have occupied 70% of the Hard drive space.
Could that be the reson for running slow?
Can you kindly recommend anti-virus to use for my system. Currently have McAfee.

Free for personal use anti-virus programs

1. Microsoft Security Essentials ** - New, from Microsoft, with email scanning, easy to install, easy to use.
   ** Your PC must run genuine Windows to install Microsoft Security Essentials.
   
2. Antivir PersonalEdition Classic- Superior detection, the "free" version has no email scan.
   
3. avast! Free Antivirus - Excellent detection, the freeware version includes email scanning.

For what it is worth, I use Microsoft Security Essentials.

A good (pay for) Anti-virus program is ESET NOD32 Antivirus - 30 day free trial.

Installing a new AV product.
Do NOT unistall any existing anti-virus product yet!

1. Download the new Anti-virus product to your computer.
   
2. Uninstall McAfee.
   
   1. Dowload and save McAfee Removal Tool to your desktop.
   2. Save any work. Close all applications, especially your Internet connection.
      
   3. Disable McAfee
      
      • Open McAfee Security Center.
        
      • Click on Home on the left pane.
        
      • Beside Computer & Files, click on the arrow button.
        
      • Next, click on the arrow button beside Configure at the middle right (NOT the bottom one).
        
      • You will come to a new page. Please check (click) Off for all the protections. Remember to scroll down.
        
      • You will be prompted, select Never and just click OK.
      
      
   4. Run the removal tool you downloaded earlier to remove McAfee.
      
   5. Reboot your computer, if not done during the uninstall.
   
   
3. Install the new AV product... following installation instructions.
   
4. Check for updates to the new AV product, if not done during install setup.
   
5. Run a full scan of your computer.

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time.
Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts.

After doing all of the above, if you still find that your computer is running slowly, you can post at one of these general computer troubleshooting forums for assistance:
