Hello. I am new to this forumn but not exactly a computer beginer. Over the years I have had various malware infections...some more severe than others...and with some expert help and a lot of digging I think I was able to remove most if not all the malware! I remember the Smitfraud C and SpySherriff infections as being the cruelest and most difficult to remove of all. I am suspecting that the tool that was used to remove the infection may have damaged my Layered Service Provider chain but we can check this later. I have reinstalled and repaired Windows XP installions a few times over the years but I a getting very sick with having to do that. For example there are so many tools that can be used to correct problems but a lot of the so called experts simply tell you to format your hard drive and then reinstall everything. I guess its too much work for them and the fact we ask for FREE HELP instead of PAYED HELP makes it a burden they would rather avoid. Anyway, I hope this is not the cas

I believe my computer is clean. Thanks for the help! As far as Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE I think they are better than nothing but not exactly nirvana.

SpySweeper and SpyDoctor (both payware) are much better alternatives and from what I read if you use both almost 100% of malware is removed!

As far as using a firewall I agree that it is IMPERATIVE but I find Windows Firewall does a good job at it provided you avoid suspicious downloads, p2p software and hackware sites.
