I think I have the About:blank in my system...

Hello, I had a big problem with my internet and the desktop got reset to some ad for anti-apyware, I got rid of all the but my norton internet security won't run and I tried to uninstall it and couldn't so I got the tool to help uninstall it and did so. Now it won't reinstall and I still can't get online with that pc. I've also run teh s&d and it found alot of things along with ad-aware but I'm still having trouble. Don't think the XP disc will fix Norton

Which version of Norton is it?

Can you try something for me... Uninstall Norton and install AVG Free Edition. See if you can access the net with AVG on the computer and not Norton.

Did you get that registry key exported?

Hi there. Well I did the scannow from the xp and I guess that went fine, no major changes. The search function still doesn't work. I went into the registry and there was no 'nofind' entry but I exported the only one beside default that was there:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000091

I cleared out Norton, it was the Norton Internet Security 2005.
I installed the AVG and ran it, it found 4 viruses and cleaned them all. I can hit the internet fine now.

thank you. I am still having trouble witht he search function and the MMC console. I don't know if you have any other ideas on that. You're great man!

OK... I thought NIS might've been an issue... It doesn't play nice with SP2. Not sure what it is about it... but I'm hearing more and more issues with SP2 and Norton products.

One of my computers that has SP2 on it doesn't like Norton either, I run AVG on it. *shrug* Seems like a better product anyways.

You can delete that reg file... wasn't what I expected.

I'll keep looking into the Windows search and the console issue, and post back if I think of something for you to try.

Couple things for you to try to restore your search function.

Reboot to safe mode and login as administrator.

Click Start>Run, type in C:\Windows\inf and then click OK.
Locate the Srchasst.inf file. Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click Install.

If that doesn't work, try this fix from MS here.

Let me know how that goes.
