Hi itemple7,

Welcome to the MalWare Removal forums! I'm looking over your log now, but as a student here, my fixes will need to be checked by an expert first.

Please be patient with me. I'l be back soon with a solution. :)

Hi again itemple7!

I see your using LimeWire. As peer2peer filesharing are extremely dangerous, with the majority of the available files being infected. Therefore, while we are cleaning up your system, you need to refrain from using Limewire or any other peer2peer program for downloading files. Also, please do not download anything except for what I ask you.

On to your problem...

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Hi again itemple7, can you do the following:

First, lets move HijackThis into its own folder. Right-Click on your Desktop > New > Folder. A new folder will be created on your desktop, which you can rename HJT. Once that is done, move HijackThis.exe (Dynamite icon) into that folder. Do this before continuing!

Next, we need to DISABLE SpyBots TeaTimer as it may interfere with the fix.

1) Run Spybot Search & Destroy
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Exit SpyBot

=====

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

I see you have Ewido already - great! :thumbleft:

Now we need to update the definitions:
Open Ewido and on the main screen next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this). Wait until you see the Update succesfull message before closing Ewido.
______________________________

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Hi itemple7, thanks for the logs. Can you do the following:

We need to DISABLE Ewido Guard as it may interfere with our fix:
  • Open Ewido
  • On the main screen under Your Computer's security, click on Change state next to Resident shield.
  • It should now change to inactive.
  • Close Ewido
=====

Update your Java.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel.
  • Click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment, and install it to your computer.

=====

Open HijackThis
- Click the Do a system scan only button
- Check the following entries (below)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {d1ac752e-883f-4ed8-8828-b618c3a72152} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CBCC61FA-0221-4ccc-B409-CEE865CACA3A} - (no file)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TClock.exe] C:\Program Files\TClock\tclock_install.exe

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

- Close ALL open windows (especially Internet Explorer!)
Click Fix Checked

Please find and delete the following folder:

C:\Program Files\TClock

=====

Next, please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      Scan Archives
      Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
      Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
=====

Reboot your computer!

=====

Do you know what this file is?

C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchijacost.exe

If you don't then do this:

Navigate to the file (you may need to view Hidden Files and Folders), right click on it, select "properties", and see what information you can find. Make a note and post back to me.

Also, if you could have that file upload here or here and save the results.

=====

Please post the following in your next reply:

  • Kaspersky log.
  • Information from the file above
  • New HijackThis log
I would also like to see another log from HijackThis.
  • Run Hijackthis.
  • Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Next click on Open uninstall manager.
  • Press the Save list button. It will open a Notepad file.
  • Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.

more logs

Unread postby itemple7 » July 29th, 2006, 8:30 pm

Here are the Kaspersky Scan Log as well as the new Hijackthis log. The file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchijacost.exe
that you asked me to send info on could not be found on my computer anywhere, including the path specified (even hidden files). Also, when I tried to "save list" in "uninstall manager", it just closed hijackthis and did not open a notepad file, thus I could not include that with this post. Any ideas? Anyway, here are the other two logs you requested. Thanks.

Hi itemple7,

Before we continue, I would like you to uninstall LimeWire temporarly until we get your computer cleaned. You can reinstall after that.

=====

Delete the contents from a-squared's Quarantine folder. Do the same for Norton's Quarantine folder.

Empty the Recycle Bin!

=====

Your log is showing that you still have an outdated version of Java. My previous post listed instructions on what to do regarding Java.

Can you follow them and try again please.

=====

Please download Killbox and save it to your desktop.

Next, copy everything in the Quote box below by pressing Ctrl+C
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchijacost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winrzf32.dll

Next, open Killbox
Go to File tab and select Paste from Clipboard
Select the Delete on Reboot option
Select All Files
Now click on the Red Circle with the White X
Press Yes to reboot your computer.

Once rebooted, continue below:

Rename HijackThis.exe to something like HJT.exe and then post a new log. Now you should be able to get an Uninstall list and post it here.

I followed your instructions for installing an updated version of Java, and installed version 5.0 Update 6. I also verified my installation and it stated that I had the latest version. Is there another version I should have? Anyway, here is the Uninstall list you requested. Thanks.

Hi itemple7,

Yes, there is an updated version of Java. You have v5.0.6, while the latest version is v5.0.7. It seems there is a problem at Sun Java's end as they appear to be bringing up version 5.0.6 for some reason. I'm sure the problem will be corrected soon, so if you could keep trying to update that would be great, but until then, can you follow my new instructions and answer any questions in your next reply.

If you have the script blocking feature enabled in Norton AntiVirus, it will need to be disabled or it is likely to block some of the tools needed for cleaning up your system.

To disable Norton AntiVirus Script Blocking:
  1. Start Norton AntiVirus.
  2. If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.
  3. Click Options.
    If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.
  4. In the left pane, click Script Blocking.
  5. In the right pane, uncheck Enable Script Blocking (recommended).
  6. Click OK.
=====

Click Start > Run > type in appwiz.cpl and hit enter. From the list uninstall the following, if present:

Viewpoint Media Player << read this
Norton SystemWorks 2003 << remove this since you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed.
IpWins

=====

Questions:

1) Let me know if you have cleared the contents from the Quarantine folders mentioned before.

2) Have you run Killbox?

3) Have you renamed HijackThis as I requested in my last post? If you have, please post a fresh HijackThis log. If not, please do so and then post a fresh HijackThis log.

I will keep trying at Java, thanks for the heads up. Sorry about the forgeting to post the hijackthis log file last time. I disabled script blocking on N. antivirus. I also uninstalled the three programs you requested, and yes I did clear all the quarantine lists you requested, as well as ran killbot to kill those two files you mentioned. As for my new hijackthis log, see below. Thanks
