VMware - Connect to Host

Unread postby jamielaw » July 2nd, 2006, 6:15 pm

I'm sure this is simply but I'm struggling at the moment...

I followed Wng's tutorial to download/install VMware:

http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/vmware/

When I try to run VMware it asks for the VMware host that I want to connect to. Also need a valid username/password for this host.

I assume this host is available on the Internet. Please can somebody help me out?

Nope...I was under the impression you could use everything from your actual computer  Do you have a link to download an OS for Windows XP? Also how would I go about installing the OS because I have no options available within VMware

You can't legally download xp :)

Just use your XP disk. If you don't have one, then you will need to buy a copy or use linux

Didn't think so...thats why I wondered why you had to download one. Is linux free?

Unfortunately I don't have an XP disc. I do have Windows 98SE disc, I assume that will work?

That'll work. At least to let you have a Win 98 install.

Sussed it...no wonder I had no options. Guess why... I didn't reboot

Now I got this working I can't find my Windows 98 disc...typical!

The Switch Host option....I assume it would be possible to connect to someone else's computer who is running VMware Server software. Any of you guys willing to do this while I sort something out with the Windows discs? Thats assuming its possible.. :?:
