Hi there Madboy! ;)

It looks like your friend has a Lop problem that often comes hand in hand with the MessengerPlus3 software.

If it is the later version then there should be the option to uninstall the 'sponsor software' in Add/Remove programs. If that option isn't there then you will need to uninstall MessengerPlus3 for now. We can reinstall it again once you are clean.

Reboot after uninstallation

Ewido Trojan Scanner
Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  5. Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  6. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. Select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  7. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Then

Download and unzip into it's own folder:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/findlop.zip

Inside the folder find findlop.bat

Doubleclick it and it will create the file C:\findlop.txt
Find that file and copy the content into your next post along with the Ewido log and a fresh hijackthis log

Run hijackthis and click the scan button, when it has finished scanning then put a tick against the following, close all other browsers and windows and click 'fix checked'

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F473753B-532D-C6C1-9556-E8C870711EFB} - C:\DOCUME~1\Tommy\APPLIC~1\MOVESI~1\Remote2.exe (file missing)

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: EmpirePoker - {77E68763-4284-41d6-B7E7-B6E1F053A9E7} - C:\Documents and Settings\MIchael\My Documents\games\EmpirePoker.exe (file missing)

Close hijackthis

Some of the newer variants of Lop stick a job in your tasks scheduler... so it makes Lop just that little bit more difficult to get at.
The batch I asked you to run shows me those jobs and it also shows me where the bad folders are. (Thanks metallica!)

Copy the part in bold below into notepad and save it as remlop.bat
Set Filetype to "all files" and save it in the same folder as findlop.bat

@echo off
jt /sd A975807F91B2386F.job
jt /sd AECCE21291A39232.job
if exist c:\tasks.txt del c:\tasks.txt
jt /se >>c:\tasks.txt

Run that file by doubleclicking it to remove those Scheduled Tasks.

Then (using the windows search facility) see if you can find the file fork camp atom.exe
There may be more than one of them in these folders.
(Foldernames are abbreviated too.)

c:\documents and settings\michael\application data\greyma~1
c:\documents and settings\daniella\application data\greyma~1

Please have a look for these folders too and delete them if you find them

C:\documents and settings\Tommy\application data\MOVESI~1
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\optiononcetimehold
Delete all these folders if they are present.

Now would be a good time to clear out some temporary files. CCleaner is a freeware system optimisation tool for PCs. It removes unnecessary junk from your computer allowing it to run more efficiently and securely.
Please download CCleaner from here or here

Install CCleaner. Now open and click on the Windows tab.Check the following items:

Under Internet Explorer:
  • Temporary Internet Files
  • History
  • Recently Typed URLs
  • Delete Index.dat files
Under System:
  • Empty Recycle Bin
  • Temporary Files
  • Memory Dumps
  • Chkdsk File Fragments
  • Old Prefetch Data

Next: click the Options button and then click the Settings tab
Uncheck: Only delete files older than 48 hrs. and click OK

Prior to running click on the Check for updates now link
Then click the Run Cleaner button. It should only take a few seconds
to complete and exit when it is done.

Reboot and run findlop.bat and post a fresh findlop log along with a fresh hijackthis log please

Post back with a new HijackThis log.

I'll make it and email the file to you.. just unzip remlop.bat into the same folder as findlop.bat before you run it.

Please post back to this thread when you are done though.

Oops, that is my fault, I forgot to tell you to show hidden files and folders.

Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
Double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

If you do that you should be able to see the Application Data folders now
