I'm having the same pop-up for an adult site, when I open a new IE window. It doesnt happen all the time, maybe 50% of the time....

I ran pest patrol, came up clean, also spybot, and adware, also clean.

I dont really understand why it comes up sometimes, but not others...

Hi jangona

Sorry to take so long...I'm checking out a couple items right now.

While your waiting for me can you pls answer a question and run some scans?
__________________

First the question...FYI...This entry in your log

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [SysPilot] Fdxxl.exe

This is related to G Data "PC Spion" which is PC Monitoring software. It captures all users activity on the PC. Did you knowingly install this software? If you didn't, then perhaps someone in your household or workplace is monitoring your activity.

Google search => http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fdxxl.exe&spell=1

Can you please run the following scans and post back results...

Step 1.
==========
You running an older version of HijackThis...
Please download the latest HijackThis version 1.99.1 from http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/HijackThis.exe and put the file in your C:\Program Files\Hijack This folder. When asked to overwrite say yes.

Step 2.
==========
MWAV...
- Download mwav.exe from MicroWorld to your Desktop
- Double-click the mwav.exe icon to run it (it'll self extract).
- Click "Scan".
- When it completes, post back the results from the 'Virus log information' pane.

Step 3.
==========
Trend Micro HouseCall
- Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click "[b[Free Online Scan[/b]".
2. Click "Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
3. Click "Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

Step 4.
==========
Scan again with Ad-aware and Spybot but use the following directions from => http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13

Step 5.
==========
Post back result from all and a new HijackThis log

Yes, I'm aware of the spyware, its on my computer, because i have it installed on my kids computer, and in order for me to read the log that it sends to me, i need to be able to open it in that program.

I am currently running the virus scans, but here is the new hijackthis log.

Also, earlier today, i went into my registry, and looked for entries that said "adult" because thats part of hte name of the site that "pops up"... i deleted all those entries.

Ok jangona...

Good to know...Please post back the results of the scans as soon as they are done. I have written up my fix but need to know if I need to make any changes as a result of the scans.

Thanks,

Hi jangona...

I'll get back to U on your"Scan" results shortly...

Please print out or copy these instructions\tutorials to Notepad as the internet will be unavailble to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Information Only: Aluria Software is on the list of "Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites" => http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_ant ... tm...about 1/2 way down in the Special Cases section. Have a read...you may want to remove it. As stated "Information only".

Step 1.
==========
- Download and install CleanUp! from http://downloads.stevengould.org/cleanup/CleanUp40.exe
- A tutorial can be found at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial93.html
(Note: Do not run this program yet)

Step 2.
==========
- Close all Windows and programs
- Run HijackThis...
- Select\check the following entries, Double-check to make sure that only these entries are checked...
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... ch/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O1 - Hosts: 69.50.166.14 yahoo.com
O1 - Hosts: 66.218.75.184 mail.yahoo.com
O2 - BHO: BHOMoneyGainer Class - {2559D0B1-AF60-4BD5-965D-0E51383A6367} - C:\WINDOW\shginas.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

- Click the "Fix checked" button.

Optional:
O4 - Startup: ASE Scheduler.lnk = C:\Program Files\Aluria Software\ASE\ASE Scheduler.exe <<<= Only if you uninstalled "Aluria Software" then select\check this entry also

Step 3.
==========
Make sure all "Hidden files and folders" are showing so please:
  • Open "My Computer".
  • Click on "Tools" and from the drop down menu select "Folder Options".
  • Select the "View" tab.
  • Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
  • Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known types option".
  • Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option".
  • Click "Yes" to confirm.
  • Click "OK".

Step 4.
==========
Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode":
  • Restart your computer.
  • When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
  • Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
  • Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
  • Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode

Step 5.
==========
Delete the following file(s) in BOLD only. (Don't be concern if they do not exist but pls advise what file(s) you could not remove)
C:\WINDOW\shginas.dll <<<= This File
C:\WINDOW\shginas.txt <<<= This File

You will have to "Search" for the file(s) listed below. They are more than likely in the C:\WINDOW or C:\WINDOW\System32 folder...
(Note: Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.)

ALCXMNTR.EXE <<<= This File

Step 6.
==========
We now need to cleanup all the Temp files and such
- Start the CleanUp! program I had you download earlier
- Click on the CleanUp! button and let it run to completion
(Note: It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient)

Step 7.
==========
- Reboot back into "Normal Mode"

Step 8.
==========
- please download Hoster to it's own folder
- Extract\Unzip in the folder
- Start "Hoster.exe" and press"'Restore Original Hosts" and press 'OK'
- Exit Program.

Step 9.
==========
- Reboot your computer
- Post back a fresh HijackThis log as soon as the PC has finished booting up
- Post back any files you could not remove

Step 10.
==========
Run this online scanner called TrojScan and let it "Fix" whatever it finds
(Note: It may take some time depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient)

jangona...
trend micro found JAVA BYTEVER A virus, but said it was not accessible. I tried to delete it, but said it was in use by sun java application...
You need to empty the Java Plugin "Cache" => http://java.com/en/download/help/cache_virus.xml
- Get into "Control Panel"
- Double-click "Java" icon
- Under "General" tab in the "Temporary Internet Files" section click the "Delete Files..." button
- Make sure all 3 options are checked\selected
- Click OK

Please run the TrendMicro HouseCall scan again at the end of the fixes and I think you find that it will be gone from the scan

i got thte results for the microworld, but it wont let me print out the results you want. is there a way to upload a picture of the results to this forum? it found a total of 8 things, including the azesearch.b virus, Trojan Downloader Win32 Swizzor.co virus
In the MWAV program near the bottom there is a "View Log" button...press it and Notepad will open. You can also us CTRL +C on your keyboard to copy everything found in the lower pane and save it to a notepad file. Copy and paste results back here. What we are looking for is the file names of the files that are infected.

those selections you told me to make on the hijackthis log, will that cause a problem for my yahoo toolbar to run? because i do not want to disable that.
No not that I know of...they are redirects. Please click this link and see what I mean => http://www.google.com/search?q=O1+-+Hos ... art=0&sa=N

Please print out or copy these instructions\tutorials to Notepad as the internet will be unavailble to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Step 1.
==========
- Download, install, setup, and RUN Ad-Aware SE 1.05 and Spybot S&D 1.3 per the following instructions found at http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13
- After last reboot, reboot into Safe Mode as per Step 2. instructions

Step 2.
==========
Step 3.
==========

Step 4.
==========
- Close all Windows and programs
- Run HijackThis...
- Select\check the following entries, Double-check to make sure that only these entries are checked...
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O1 - Hosts: 69.50.166.14 yahoo.com
O1 - Hosts: 66.218.75.184 mail.yahoo.com
O2 - BHO: BHOMoneyGainer Class - {2559D0B1-AF60-4BD5-965D-0E51383A6367} - C:\WINDOW\shginas.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

- Click the "Fix checked" button.

Step 5.
==========
Delete the following file(s) in BOLD only. If you cannot find them in the folder search your PC using the instructions below for XP Search.
C:\WINDOW\shginas.dll <<<= This File
C:\WINDOW\shginas.txt <<<= This File
C:\WINDOW\shginasn.xml <<<= This File

You will have to "Search" for the file(s) listed below. They are more than likely in the C:\WINDOW or C:\WINDOW\System32 folder...
(Note: Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on '[B]All files and folders
' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.)[/B]

ALCXMNTR.EXE <<<= This File

Step 6.
==========
We now need to cleanup all the Temp files and such
- Start the CleanUp! program I had you download earlier
- Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin
- Click on the CleanUp! button and let it run to completion
(Note: It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient)

Step 7.
==========
- Reboot back into "Normal Mode"

Step 8.
==========
- Start "Hoster.exe" and press"'Restore Original Hosts" and press 'OK'
- Exit Program.

Step 9.
==========
- Post back a fresh HijackThis log as soon as the PC has finished booting up
- Post back any files you could not remove

Hi jangona...

Your HJT log appears to be clean to me...are you getting that pop-up anymore?

I'm posting my "All Clean" speech right now. Please note some of the software listed that can help protect your PC from the Nasties... :D

________________________________

Along with the items below I recommend running an antispyware program like...
- Microsoft AntiSpyware => Free program
- CounterSpy (pay) => You can try for free first
- Spyware Sweeper (Pay) => You can try for free first

I have run all 3 and can recommend either one of them.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  1. Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point. You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

    Managing Windows Millenium System Restore or Windows XP System Restore Guide

    Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  2. Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    2. Click once on the Security tab
    3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
      1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  3. Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:
    Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  4. Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  5. Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  6. Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  7. Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  8. Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  9. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster (free) will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  10. Install IE-SPYAD - IE-SPYAD (free) adds a list of sites and domains associated with advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer. A tutorial on installing & using IE-SPYAD can be found here:
    Using IE-Spyad to enhance your privacy and security

  11. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad we were able to help.
