Thanks!
There was a browser hijacking and I kept cleaning it but could not get rid of it. I tried to install sp2 on xp home but had to revert because it I could not connect to the internet. I installed adaware pro and I think that stopped the hijacking. I'm not sure what else. It's been a while since I had any resource to help me and I was trying to avoid a reload.
Thanks for you help!
here is the log
Michael

Might want to fix these lines:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\System\panels\blank.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\System\panels\blank.htm

Other than that, I can't see anything else.

Some machines just don't like SP2. I have one on my home network that just won't load it properly. Almost always errors out with some generic error message. When it does install... it makes it go real wonky. Pretty much cripples it.

It likes SP1 and any other updates just fine... SP2... nope :P

Some Norton products have been known to cause problems on certain machines when SP2 is installed. Might be the culprit.

So has Divx.

I haven't had problems with Divx on any of my machines, but the Norton/SP2 thing did mess with the WMI on one of them. Had to reinstall XP to fix the problem... needless to say, Norton didn't go back on that system.
