You may want to print out these instructions or save it as a text document, and use them as a reference. If you have any questions regarding the fix, please ask us before proceeding. Please make sure that you follow this in the right order as I have listed.

=====================================

Please download & Install - FixWareout.exe

When you reach the final page of the installation process, make sure Run fixit is checked.
Follow the on-screen prompts & reboot your computer when instructed to do so.

** Do not be alarmed if your computer takes longer than usual to load -- this is normal

FixWareOut will produce a logfile, located here - C:\fixwareout\report.txt. Post it on your next reply.

=====================================

Show Hidden Files and Folders

Click Start » My Computer » Tools » Folder Options. Select the View tab.
  • Check - Show hidden files and folders
  • Uncheck - Hide file extensions for known types
  • Uncheck - Hide protected operating system files
Click Yes to confirm, then OK to exit.

=====================================

Boot into Safe Mode. Please restart your computer and before the Windows logo appear, tap F8 repeatedly. A menu should appear, select Safe Mode from the menu and then hit Enter on your keyboard. (this will take a while, so don't worry, just wait)

=====================================

Run HijackThis

Please open HJT, click Do a system scan only, and then place a checkmark beside each of these entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmgvw.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmgvw.exe
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{53D09CD6-8CAE-46AE-84D0-6BBC8A6E666E}: NameServer = 85.255.113.206,85.255.112.76
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{71A5CFDB-F619-4FFA-9F27-0AEE997837B8}: NameServer = 85.255.113.206 85.255.112.76
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{B05524C8-1817-4474-AF37-0E46B7CEE1FD}: NameServer = 85.255.113.206,85.255.112.76

After placing all the checkmarks, close all windows (except HJT), and then hit Fix Checked. When it finishes, exit HJT.

=====================================

* Delete this file (if found) -

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmgvw.exe

=====================================

Clear IE's Cookies and Cache
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer.
  • Go to Control Panel » Internet Options » General tab.
  • Click the Delete Cookies.
  • Next to it, Click the Delete Files button.
  • When prompted, place a check in: Delete all offline content, click OK.
Clean Temporary Files
  • Go to Start » Run » type: cleanmgr » OK.
  • Choose (C:) and then click OK.
  • Make sure these are the only ones that are checked :
    • Temporary Internet Files
    • Temporary Files
    • Recycle Bin
  • Click OK to remove them.
  • Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
=====================================

Restart your computer

=====================================

Run an online scan at Panda's ActiveScan
  • Please go here and perform a full system scan. (use Internet Explorer)
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
  • A new window will open...click the big Check Now button.
  • Enter your Country.
  • Enter your State/Province.
  • Enter your Valid Email and click send.
  • Select either Home User or Company.
  • Click the big Scan Now button.
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it.
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan.
  • Click on Local Disks to start the scan.
  • Once finished, click see report, then click Save report.
NOTE: Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.

=====================================

In your next reply, please include these log(s):
  • HijackThis (new)
  • Panda
  • C:\fixwareout\report.txt

.
Good luck,
Jet Ian

Looking better now streetwork,

=====================================

Run HijackThis

Please open HJT, click Do a system scan only, and then place a checkmark beside each of these entries:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{71A5CFDB-F619-4FFA-9F27-0AEE997837B8}: NameServer = 85.255.113.206 85.255.112.76

After placing all the checkmarks, close all windows (except HJT), and then hit Fix Checked. When it finishes, exit HJT.

=====================================

* Delete these files (if found) -

C:\Documents and Settings\Robin Pelling\Desktop\Downloads2\mechanic-2.2.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmrhu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sockdebug.exe

* Tell us if you can't delete/find any of those files listed.

=====================================

Run an online scan at Kaspersky
  • Please go here to run Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner.
  • You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan, select My Computer.
  • This will scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button, and save it to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
=====================================

In your next reply, please include these log(s):
  • HijackThis (new)
  • Kaspersky

.
Good luck,
Jet Ian

Your HJT log looks clean now :D We just need to delete the files found by Kaspersky.

====

Click Start » Run » type: regsvr32 /u occache.dll » OK

====

Delete these files :

C:\Documents and Settings\Robin Pelling\Desktop\Downloads2\XoftSpy421_171.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.dll

====

Click Start » Run » type: regsvr32 occache.dll » OK

====

Then empty your Recycle Bin.

====

In addition to being a security risk, Windows' "Messenger Service" is being used to "Spam" Windows users across the Internet. So if you're not using Windows Messenger, please download this tool below :

http://grc.com/files/shootthemessenger.exe

Double-click on that file, and when you receive "Messenger Service Is Currently Running!" message, then click on the "Disable Messenger" button below it.

Hi,

Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text in the quote to Notepad. Save it as "All Files" and name it FixServices.bat. Please save it on your desktop.

sc stop NipSvc
sc delete NipSvc
exit

Double click FixServices.bat. A window will open and close. This is normal.

====

Open HJT and run a scan. Check if this is still in the log :

O23 - Service: Norman API-hooking helper (NipSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\VIRUSfighter\Nvc\BIN\nipsvc.exe (file missing)

If it still exist, please check and fix it.

====

====

Download Blacklight to your Desktop.
  • Double-click blbeta.exe.
  • Click I accept the agreement, then Next.
  • Click Scan, then Next.
  • Don't use the Rename option yet.
You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your Desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers). Post this log along with your next reply.

====

MVPs HOSTS File

The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one that will restrict known ad sites form serving you unsolicited advertisements. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is the IP of your local computer.
  • Download Host.zip to your desktop.
  • From your Desktop right-click (hosts.zip) and select:
    Extract All from the menu.
  • Click Next, click Next, select the option:
  • "Show Extracted files", click Finish
  • This will open the newly created hosts folder on your Desktop.
  • Double-click on the included mvps.bat file, this will rename the existing HOSTS file to HOSTS.MVP, then it will copy the included updated HOSTS file to the correct location on your machine.
====

In your next reply, please include these log(s):
  • HijackThis (new)
  • C:\fixwareout\report.txt
  • Blacklight's results

.
Regards,
Jet Ian

Your log is now clean! Image If you still have any other problems/questions, just post them here.

Now that you're clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

1.) Re-Hide System Files and Folders:
  • Click Start
  • Open My Computer
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
  • Select the View tab
  • Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option
  • Select the Hide protected operating system files option
  • Click Yes to confirm
  • Click OK
2.) Reset and Re-enable your System Restore

We need to do this to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)
  • Click Start » Run » ( type: SYSDM.CPL ) » OK
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check - Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply.
  • Uncheck - Turn off System Restore.
  • Click OK.
You have now flushed your previous System Restore points, so we will make a new one again since your computer is already clean.
  • Go to Start » All Programs » Accessories » System Tools, and select System Restore
  • In the System Restore prompt, select: Create a restore point
  • Click Next
  • Give a description to the new Restore Point. (Something like: Clean PC)
  • Click Create
  • Then close the window
3.) How to Prevent Re-Infection

Please take your time reading on this list, it is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Windows Updates (a must!) - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this, open Internet Explorer, then and select Tools » Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy- Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • Firewall (a must!) - It is definitely a must have. Two good free versions are Kerio and ZoneAlarm.
  • Anti-Virus (a must!) - It is also a must have. Two good programs are Avast and AVG, they're both free.
    Note: You must only use 1 (one) AV because if you have 2 AVs, it will conflict with each other and will only make your system slow.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein.

Jet Ian
