Hi helenc. Welcome to Malware Removal, The log you submitted is not complete, in order for us to help we need you to submit a full fresh log with all the entries included (all the way down to the 023 entries). Also I notice that HJT is currently running from a temporary folder, this can cause problems in case of any rollbacks. Please create a folder either on your desktop, or on your main root drive (in this case C:\ ) and name it HJT or something simular then we can get down to anylising your log for any malware that you may have lurking :D

Thank you - Dorian - aKa Steve

Hi helenc, your computer is in need a little TLC. Part of the problem could possibly be a software conflict with running two firewalls (Windows default firewall & Panda Firewall) try turning off your windows firewall to stop it conflicting with Panda, to do this follow the steps here.

Once you have done the above please follow the rest of the steps below and make sure that each step is complete before moving on to the next one. If you are having any difficulty understanding or following any part of the instructions then please feel free to enquire so that we can clarify things in more detail.

Please note that HJT is running from a temp folder
You currently are running HijackThis from here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Karen\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YYZ1H7LN

Please Create a new folder either here:
C:\ or on your desktop and call it this folder HJT and place HijackThis in that folder.

DO NOT follow the steps below until you have moved HijackThis
================================================================

Once you have re-located HJT
Open HJT by double clicking on the icon and select the second button entitled "do a system scan only".
Now select the followng entries by placing a tick in the left hand check box

O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://www.popcap.com/games/popcaploader_v6.cab
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AOL Spyware Protection] "C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\AOLSPY~1\AOLSP Scheduler.exe"

Once you have selected all entries then click once on the "fix checked" button to clear the entries from your log and then exit HJT

Update your Java.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.

  • Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel.
  • Click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment, and install it to your computer.

Once done, Generate and post me a fresh HJT log here and let me know how things are running now

Hi there, From your log your computer appears to be free from malware, I can see that the changes I have suggested have been made, the only thing I cannot check with the log is weather or not the windows firewall has been disabled but im putting my trust in that you have followed the instructions through :) are you still having problems at all.....

I Have noticed that you have AOL Dialup and DSL Agent both on the same machine. Do you have ADSL and still use dial up ?? Does AOL still Dial up if you are using ADSL....

Hi there :)

gosh I sound thick.

Not one bit ! We all had to learn at some stage and I am no exception either

It sounds as though you are conencting via ADSL connection

Can you confirm that the panda firewall is running. Open up the panda control panel and it should look like the image below with the 4th option showing green, if not then enable the option so it turns green.

Image

Open HJT by double clicking on the icon and select the second button entitled "do a system scan only".
Make sure you close any windows that are open or minumised
Now select the followng entries by placing a tick in the left hand check box

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AOLDialer] C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\AOLDial.exe

Once you have selected all entries then click once on the "fix checked" button to clear the entries from your log, this will eliminate the AOL Dialer from auto starting causing any conflict, restart your computer

Hows it running now.....

Hi there helenc

Lets get AOL connected again, first we need to create a shortcut to the AOL dial up on your desktop

Navigate to the following folder -->C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\

Now look inside that folder for a file called AOLDial.exe

Right click the file and select "copy"

Now go back to your desktop (you can use "windows key" and "d" as a shortcut key to the desktop) then right click in an empty space and select "Paste Shortcut" and a new icon should appear

Now double click the new desktop icon to connect to AOL once more and let me know if you are successfull or not

Hi there helenc

Probably the best way to fix the problem with the AOL not connecting is by re-installing AOL from the installation disk, I think you should have recieved a disk which will have come with the AOL from when you signed with them. Simply place this in your CD drive and follow the instructions on screen. Once you have done this let me know how things are. As for your firewall, I would leave panda disabled, and re-activate the windows firewall by reversing the instructions earlier.
