Do I need MBR.dat?

Unread postby newjackridi » February 13th, 2012, 2:45 am

I found MBR.dat in my downloads library, didn't know what it was, so I looked it up. I saw things saying it's most likely a virus, so I deleted it. Then I saw something that said it was a master boot record or something. Did I delete something I need?? It was in my downloads so I thought it was new. If I needed it, can you help me restore it or DL a safe version? I know there are rules about posting logs here, but this isn't a question about viruses, it's a computer question and I didn't know where else to go. Please help.

mbr.dat is likely to be a backup of your Master Boot Record, created by one of a number of malware removal tools.

If you have recently had your computer checked at one of the Malware removal forums, it is likely your helper has had you run one of these tools.

Deleting the file should have no detrimental effect on your computer.

Hope this answers your query.
