I've run the Symantec Removal tool, in regular and safe mode, it is unable to detect the virus. I did this several times according to their instructions. Symantec is offering no other solutions other than their pay for service. NAV keeps popping up with a warning that won't go away, it says that it cannot fix, delete, or quarantine this virus. Other than that their are no other symptoms or problems I've yet seen. The infected file is located at C:\WINDOWS\system32\mllmm.dll

Here's the HIJACK THIS LOG (I ran this with Norton still disabled if that makes a difference, otherwise the pop-up warning keeps appearing and won't go away!) Please help! Thanks- dm

Hi Darcym,

The log is looking much better. :D Let's do a little tidying up. You might like to print these instruction so that you'll have acces to them later when you are in Safe Mode. Please read them carefully, follow them in the order they are given and do not miss any.

Before doing anything else, we need to put HijackThis in its own folder so that it can house its backups. Rightclick on an empty space on the desktop, go to New>Folder to create a new folder and name it HijackThis. Now, drag and drop HijackThis.exe into that folder.

==========================================

I see that you are using Limewire. Please go to the following link and read about Limewire. I would recommend that you remove it and select a clean application later.

http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/

Please go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and remove LimeWire.

==========================================

Scan with HijackThis and put a checkmark against the following entries:

O4 - Startup: LimeWire On Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe
O16 - DPF: {E7D2588A-7FB5-47DC-8830-832605661009} - http://liveca12.custhelp.com/7530-b327h ... a/RntX.cab
O16 - DPF: {B49C4597-8721-4789-9250-315DFBD9F525} (IWinAmpActiveX Class) - http://cdn.digitalcity.com/radio/ampx/a ... _en_dl.cab

Close all other browsers/applications/windows, except HijackThis and click on "fix checked".

==========================================

Using Windows Explorer (right click on Start>Explore), navigate to and delete the following folder, if found:

C:\Program Files\LimeWire

==========================================

You have an old and vulnerable version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed. Please go to this link and it will describe how you can remove your old version and update to a new JRE:
http://wiki.castlecops.com/Windows_Update_Fix

Once you have installed the latest update, please go to Add/Remove Programs and remove all older instances of Java listed there.

==========================================

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your Desktop. Do not run it yet.

==========================================

Download and install Ewido Anti-Malware

During the installation, uncheck the following under Additional Options:
Install background guard
Install scan via context menu

Check for updates but do not run it yet.

==========================================

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Look in here for more information.

==========================================

In Safe Mode, double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Check the boxes to the left of:

Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

The rest are optional - if you want to remove the lot, check "Select All".

Finally click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.

If you use the Firefox or Opera browsers, you can use this program as a quick way to tidy those up as well.

Firefox :
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Opera :
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

When you have finished, click on the Exit button in the Main menu.

==========================================

From Safe Mode run Ewido.
Click on Scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says 'Perform action with all infections' then choose clean and click OK.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report - click it.
Save the report.txt file to your desktop.

Now close Ewido-Anti-Malware.

Warning: While the scan is in progress, DO NOT open any folders or the Windows Control Panel !!

==========================================

Finally, restart your computer in Normal Mode and

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.
- Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
- A new window will open...click the big "Check Now" button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
- Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

==========================================

Scan with HijackThis again. Post a new HijackThis log, Ewido scan report and Panda Online scan results, please.
