Unread postby sparkyaber » August 1st, 2011, 1:45 pm

Trend-micro has been giving me warnings of this trojan in:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ATMLIB32.EXE
and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbdlt32.exe

Here is the trend micro warning:
-----------------------------------------
Notification
Real-time Virus Protection
Real-time Virus Protection has detected a virus or other security risk, and performed the action specified.

.
Action taken: The Quarantine action was unsuccessful. Manually delete the file if you are sure that it is not needed.
.
Incident name: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ATMLIB32.EXE
Detection name: TROJ_SPNR.0BGL11
User name: Steph Rodrigue
Note: If Search for and clean Trojans is turned on and executed after scanning, click Next to view the final action taken.
------------------------------------------

I have tried to delete them but it will not allow me to do so.
I also tried to delete them with hijack this, but I don't know if I followed the right steps.

Thanks in advance.

Abe

Hi sparkyaber,

Firstly, welcome to the Malware Removal Forum. :)
My name is Scolabar, and I'll be helping you with your malware problems.
Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient.

I am currently working under the guidance of the MRU teachers, everything I post to you, will need to be reviewed by them.
This additional review process can add some extra time to my responses, but hopefully not too much.
;)

Please note the following important guidelines before proceeding:
  1. The instructions that will be provided are for YOUR computer and system only!
Using these instructions on a different computer can cause damage to that computer and possibly render it inoperable
    !
  2. If you have any questions or do not understand something, please do not hesitate to ask, don't guess or assume.
  3. Only post your problem at One help site. Applying fixes from multiple help sites can cause problems.
  4. Only reply to this thread, do not start another. Please, continue responding, until I give you the All Clean.
Absence of symptoms does not necessarily mean that everything is clear.
  5. DO NOT run any other fix or removal tools unless instructed to do so!
  6. DO NOT install any other software (or hardware) during the cleaning process. This adds more items to be researched.
  7. Print each set of instructions, if possible. Your Internet connection will not be available during some fix processes.
  8. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  9. Note: No Reply Within 3 Days Will Result In Your Topic Being Closed!

Please Note: If you haven't done so already, please read this topic ALL USERS OF THIS FORUM MUST READ THIS FIRST where the conditions for receiving help here are explained.

Please be aware that removing Malware is a hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

In light of this, it would be advisable for you to back up any important files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start.

If you follow these guidelines, things should proceed smoothly. :)
I am currently reviewing your log and will return, as soon as possible, with additional instructions.

Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for your help.
I have backed up my computer as you have requested.
I am not too concerned about the time it takes to fix this, as the computer seems to be running ok accept for the error messages that keep popping up.
I am around my computer only in the evening here. (Central Time Zone).

Hi sparkyaber,

That's fine. Thank you for the feedback and confirmation that you have completed your backup. :thumbright:

Once my proposed next post has been approved by one of our Teachers I will come back to you. :)
Hopefully it won't be too long, but as you can no doubt appreciate the Teachers are very busy.

Hi sparkyaber,

Thank you again for your patience. :)

I notice this is not your first visit to the Malware Removal Forums. ;)

Please read these instructions carefully before executing and perform the steps, in the order given.
lf you have any questions about or problems with, executing these instructions, <STOP> do not proceed, post back with the question or problem before going any further.

Before we proceed please make sure any open programs are closed.

Step 1:
Business Use Computer?

Entries in the log you have provided lead me to believe that this computer may be being used for business purposes.
Please could you confirm whether or not this is the case? If not, please proceed with Step 2 and clarify for what purposes this computer is used in your next post.

Step 2:
RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)

Let's run RSIT to see if this tool can uncover some more information about the infection.

  1. Please download RSIT by random/random and save it to your Desktop.
  2. Double-click on RSIT.exe to run the program. Read the disclaimer and then click on the Continue button.
  3. RSIT will start running.
  4. When the program has finished two logs files will automatically open in Notepad:
    • log.txt <-- Will be opened, maximized.
    • info.txt <-- Will be minimized on task bar.
  5. Please Copy and Paste the entire contents of both log.txt and info.txt files into your next reply.
Note: These logs can be lengthy, so post 1 log per reply please.

Step 3:
Include in Next Post

  1. Did you have any problems carrying out the instructions?
  2. Is this computer used for business purposes? If not, please clarify for what purposes the computer is used.
  3. log.txt.
  4. info.txt.
  5. Do you have the original Windows installation media for your PC?

My wife is a hair stylist, and uses the computer for some of her book keeping, (taxes and such). I don't know if this classifies this as a business computer. The computer is in our home.

Hi sparkyaber,

Having examined your logs I believe this to be a computer used for business, be it personal or corporate.

Business Use Computer

Unfortunately, we cannot help remove malware from a computer, used for business purposes.
Many of these type of computer systems may have specific modifications made which could be removed or damaged by the tools we use. These altered systems may also hinder our tools, possibly reducing their effectiveness in removing the malware.
An extract taken from the Malware Removal's rules posted at the top of the Malware Removal forum:

Malware Removal Administration wrote:Computers used in a business environment often have policies and other modifications made to them. It is impossible for us to differentiate these from ones that have been made by an infection, so in removing what we think is an infection, we may compromise the business set up of your computer.

The scans we run often reveal information that most businesses would not want exposed in an open forum, and there are other legal constraints and ramifications involved with business machines that we are not equipped or trained to deal with.

...

On this forum the Administrators are the sole arbiters of what constitutes business use.

Any topic where we believe the computer is one that is used in a business environment will be closed, irrespective of whether that business is a large company or a small one man enterprise.

All decisions are final, and are not open to discussion or negotiation.

For a corporate or multi-computer business:
I strongly advise that you contact your IT department and make them aware of the problems you are having. If your computer is infected (- possibly others on the network may be as well), your IT department needs to be alerted so they can devise a plan to minimize any business impact.

For a single computer used for business purposes:
I would advise that you contract an individual or firm to deal with any computer problems.

I am sorry that I am unable to offer you any further assistance. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
I will now ask for this topic to be closed.

It is not used for business any more than someone doing personal financing on.
How do you figure that it is used for business??

I see you are posting for help for a "Business" computer.

May I draw your attention to THIS topic, which you should have read before posting for help.

The section Posting for help for business machines explains why we do not offer help for such computers.

This topic is now closed
