Unread postby weimingwang2 » March 14th, 2006, 11:24 pm

I have SpyFalcon removal problems. I have used the SmitRem.exe file along with the reg addition. Now SpyFalcon does not seem to reappear, but my homepage is still hijacked to one of their sites.

Hi weimingwang2 :) ,

Welcome to MWR. :) This log is not complete. The bottom part is cut off. Please uninstall the old HijackThis from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, and do the following:
Please Click on HERE to download a self extractable version of hijackthis. Double click on hijackthis.exe to extract hijackthis to folder c:\hijackthis. It will extract it to that folder and open the folder for you. It will also create a shortcut on your desktop to hijackthis.

You might like to print these instructions so that you'll have access to them when you are in safe mode. Please follow them in the order they are given.

Please download Ccleaner and save it to your desktop. Do not use it yet.

======================================

Download smitRem.exe. Discard the old one, it may have been updated.

or HERE
or Here
and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

======================================

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

=============================

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply

======================================

Scan with HijackThis and put a checkmark against the following entry:

O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp8220.tmp

Close all other browsers/applications/windows, except HijackThis, and click on "fix checked".

======================================

Make sure that you can see hidden files
" Click Start
" Open My Computer
" Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
" Select the View Tab
" Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders
" Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option
" Click Yes to confirm
" Click OK

======================================

Still in Safe Mode, using Windows Explorer (Right click on Start, then click on Explore), navigate and delete the following files, if still exist: (They probably will no longer be there, but let's make sure)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvctrl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp8220.tmp

======================================

Still in Safe Mode, open Ccleaner. Click on Options, Select Advanced
Now UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
Make sure the Cleaner block on the left is selected. (Do not use the "Issues" block) Choose the Windows tab.
Check everything EXCEPT Advanced part of the Menu. Click on "Analyze". This process could take a while.
If you don't want to loose your login passwords to certain sites, click on Options, select cookies and move the ones you want to keep to the "cookies to keep" section, by highlighting and using the arrows in the middle.
Choose Run Cleaner.
When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished. Click Exit.

If you have more than one users, run Ccleaner for every user

======================================

Post the contents of smitfiles.txt and the a new HJT log, please. Make sure that you have the complete log posted.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Reappear ... dxmpp ...

Unread postby weimingwang2 » March 15th, 2006, 9:07 pm

Thank you all.

I left my computer connected with the internet, and SpyFalcon cameback overnight. I guess, it somehow downloaded and installed itself. So, I did the SmitRem plus FixSF reg method again. Though it looks fine now, I did skip one step during the process because I was unable to find the dxmpp dll file to delete.

My homepage is not hijacked at this moment, fortunately. Below is the log. I will download a new version of HijackThis and scan again tomorrow, to see if my computer remains okay. Thank you all again.
