You have been infected by W32/Rbot-AFL, which allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data.

Rbot info

I suggest you do the following immediately:

1. Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.

2. From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords -- for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.

Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passords and transaction information.

Because of the gravity of this infection, if you are using this computer to do sensitive work (i.e., online banking, paying credit card bills), my best advice is to save datafiles, reformat, and re-install your computer. The nature of your infection makes it impossible for us to be completely sure that your machine is clean, even if the logs are all clear. Reformatting is the only way to be sure that you computer is completely clean.

If, however, you decide that the computer is not used for any sensitive work, or if you do not wish to reformat at this time, I can definitely help you clean your computer to the best of my abilities.

Please let me know what you decide to do in your next post.

****************************

If you would like to try to clean your computer, please follow these instructions:

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

Ghostwall or Jetico - You are currently running 2 firewalls simultaneously. Running more than 1 firewall at a time will actually increase your chances of infection. I suggest you uninstall one of the two firewalls. In my opinion, Jetico offers more control b/c it has application control, but the decision is entirely up to you.
Norton Antivirus or AVG - You are also currently running 2 antivirus programs simultaneously. This isn't a good idea as it can cause conflicts. I suggest you either uninstall one of them or disable one of them from real time scanning and use it for backup scanning purposes only.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.

* Close all windows before continuing.
* Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
* Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
* You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
* When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
* You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
* When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
* Your computer will then shutdown.
* Turn your computer back on.
* Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.
http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/im ... WINSCK.OCX

********************************

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe,
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

In your next post, please post:

  • Fresh HJT Log
  • C:\vundofix.txt
  • C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt

allowing all connections is one of the most dangerous things to do while connected to the internet. this allows all malware on your computer unlimited access to the outside world, allowing communication with possible hackers. any sensitive information on your computer can also be easily stolen.

o if i uninstal one i would like to uninstall jetico but i dont want to uninstal it and not be able to get on the internet again....

i don't believe uninstalling jetico would prevent you from connecting to the internet. in fact, having two firewalls running simultaneously may be the source of not being able to connect to the internet (and also why when you allow all in jetico, you are able to connect).

Please post back with any additional problems or questions you may have. if all is well, please continue with the fix provided.

At the XP log on screen, press ctrl + alt + delete simultaneously. This should bring up the classic windows log in screen that allows you to type in a user name and password.

If that doesn't work, post back, and we'll try to find a different way. Do you happen to have your XP CD available?

Otherwise, if all is well, please continue with the fix provided.

If your Windows XP cd won't boot up, I think your disk might be broken.

________________________________

Try this:

1. Start your computer.
2. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
3. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
4. If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER.

Let me know if that works. If you can get back into normal windows, please post back with a fresh HJT log.

Ok, let's make sure your boot sequence is set up appropriately.

When the computer is booting up, you'll want to enter the setup screen; depending on which bios you have, the key you have to tap will differ, and may be:

F2, Del, or Esc

If that doesn't work, refer to this page and find the manufacturer of your bios to find the correct key combination to access bios.

In bios, you'll want to make sure that your boot sequence is correct. There should be a boot order/sequence tab at the top of the screen. Navigate to that screen, and change the boot order sequence so that your cd drive boots first.

Then reboot, and see if you can reboot using the Windows XP cd.

Let's try to do this before attempting anything else.

Let me know if you have any other problems.

Hi,

let's try this:

We need to unhide system files. To do so, please follow the steps below:
  1. Double-click My Computer.
  2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  3. Click the View tab.
  4. Under the "Hidden files" folder, check the box next to:"Show hidden files and folders."
  5. Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files."
  6. Click Apply, and then click OK.

make an exact copy of your windows xp cd using a cd burner, and try to boot from the copy of the xp cd.
