Re: Windows Vista - DLL error

Unread postby Airscape » December 22nd, 2010, 6:01 pm

Hello and welcome to the forum.
My name is Airscape and I'll be helping you with your malware issues.
The logs can take a while to research. Please be patient with me.

Take note of the following before we begin.
  • Post to this thread only and please stick to it until I say your pc is clean.
  • The instructions I give are for This computer only and should not be used on any other pc.
  • Do NOT run any tools/scans unless I instruct you to.
  • Try not to install/uninstall any programs while we work. This will add extra time researching your logs.
  • If you have found assistance elsewhere and no longer require our help, please say so, and this topic will be closed.
  • If you have any problems, please stop and ask before proceeding with any fixes.
  • ALL USERS OF THIS FORUM MUST READ THIS FIRST

Note: As I'm still in training, everything I post must be checked by a teacher first. So there may be a slight delay in between posts.

Important:
Please be aware that removing Malware is a hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.
In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any important files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

>> Computers using Operating Systems no longer supported by Microsoft <<

You need to update to Vista Service Pack 2.
IMPORTANT: The above mentioned Service Pack should only be installed on a malware free computer.
After we check for malware it's very important you update to SP2 which I will provide the link to do so.
It would help if you let me know if you use dial-up or broadband to connect to the internet also.

Be back soon with further instructions when check by a teacher. Thanks for your patience.

Hello,

Please Uninstall Spybot Search & Destroy until the computer is clean as it will interfere with the fix below.

Do this via Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features > right-click and select Uninstall.
If asked if you want to remove all settings, answer yes.
Make sure you restart the computer.

---------------------------------------------------------

TFC(Temp File Cleaner)
  • Please download TFC to your desktop.
  • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
  • Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
(if using Vista: right-click the file and select Run as Administrator)
  • Click the Start button in bottom left of TFC.
  • If prompted, click "Yes" to reboot.
Note: Save your work. TFC will automatically close any open programs, let it run uninterrupted.
It should not take longer than a couple of minutes, and may only take a few seconds. Only if needed will you be prompted to reboot.

------------------------------------------------------------

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Go here:http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php and save the file to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
(if using Vista: right-click the file and select Run as Administrator)
  • At the end of installation make sure you leave a checkmark next to:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Save it somewhere you can find and post the results.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to finish cleaning. Please allow it.

------------------------------------------------------------

Random's System Information Tool (RSIT)
  • Please download RSIT by random/random from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
(if using Vista: right-click the file and select Run as Administrator)
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two text files will open.
  • Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Note: both logs can be found in the C:\rsit folder if you lose them.

Please post the Malwarebytes log and both RSIT logs.

Hi Airscape

I ran the TFC one ok but can't seem to download the malware one? It gives me the option to save but then doesn't open the dialog box to ask me where to save the file and nothing else happens?

Shall I carry on with the RSIT ones? Or is there something i'm doing wrong.

Thanks

OK - so I tried again and downloaded the file to my desktop but when I try to run it - it says 'An error has occurred - please report this error code to our support team - program error missing file (2,0 mbamcore.dll) and then it says system error 53.

Whilst doing that AVG popped up to say that I have 2 backdoor trojan horse on my comp....

Hello,
It is part of mbam being detected as a backdoor by avg and not allowing mbam to run. The latest updated version should allow it run. Try and update avg then do the following.

Uninstall programs
  • Click on Start.
  • All programs.
  • Accessories.
  • Run.
  • In the open text box copy/paste appwiz.cpl Then click Ok.
  • Uninstall the following
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Now reboot your PC.

Next.

  • Download and run This utility
  • it will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).
  • Next install the latest version of malwarebytes Anti-Malware from Here.
  • Then follow my previous instructions and post the logs in your next reply.

If AVG alerts you again please allow it to ignore or add to exclusion list.

Re: Windows Vista - DLL error

Unread postby Airscape » December 26th, 2010, 11:38 am

Hello,

Are you still getting the error? which program gives the error when trying to open it? nothing in your logs indicate the problem is malware related. Updating the SP may solve some issues.

Random Access Memory Advice:
Total RAM: 952 MB (18% free)
Though Microsoft claims XP will run with a 512 MB of system memory installed in my opinion a minimum of 2 GB is far better.

If you wish to upgrade the installed memory in your system, Crucial have a small scanner (CrucialScan.exe) which is perfectly safe to download and run in Admin' mode.. Which will advise if your system can support any upgraded memory modules. They cater for the US/UK and Europe.

-----------------------------------------------------

ESET online scannner

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  • Hold down Control then click on the following link to open a new window to ESET online scannner
  • Then click on: Image
Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.
All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.
  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: Image
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is NOT checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on: Image
  • The virus signature database... will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close if you so wish, make sure you copy the logfile first!
  • Now click on: Image
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

------------------------------------------------

Post the following:
  • Eset log
  • New HijackThis log
  • Update on how the pc is running?

Re: Windows Vista - DLL error

Unread postby sammieC » December 27th, 2010, 10:00 am

Oh dear - I just posted the ESET log and posted it and its gone.. I can't find it on my comp now - I guess it must have uninstalled.. It did take just over an hour and reported 0 issues/infections.. do I need to run it again?

The problem is still there when I turn the computer on I get multiple error messages starting with C:\windows\systems32\AVGRSSTX.DLL unable to run... I am wondering if it could be related to the AVG PC tuneup 2011 I installed a few weeks ago.. it could just be the memory..

Thanks
